My sister got tix yesterday and first 5 rows were already sold out. Wish I could make it but I'll stay warm here and hope they book a fla show. Personally, I'm not too interested in being up front...I got a cheap seat next to the soundboard. I'm more interested in the mix, than the looking; seen the band plenty up close. And not that I'm superstitious, I turn 60 on Friday the 13th....hoping for a birthday show too. Soundboard location is my preferred, as well. The mix is always hit or miss in the Front Row. It was a HIT in the first row, night one at SonyHall. Prolly 10-1 ratio, Soundboard to FrontRow chosen

Me too Mike and Chuck. Bought at 10 am sharp. Bought last row center in the front center section. Seat were open up front.
If I knew Woody was back more I'd have been there. Gotta give it space to mix ! Front row can be too choppy. I'm a sound snob. 😂

This show gives me hope for more possibilities of a Texas/Oklahoma show or 2 this year! Amen to that. No Texas show last year or any place within reasonable driving distance. Up by you was the closest, and that was a lonnnnng way.
Bummer.

Gotta give it space to mix ! Front row can be too choppy. I'm a sound snob. 😂 We like the front row because we like to see the band, but 3 of of 3 times WAY too loud for me. No earplugs the first show and I couldn't understand any lyrics. Eardrums pressed to their limit, fingers in my ears the whole time. My ears are way too sensitive anyway, my wife is the other way around. She said the sound was great. I had cheap earplugs for our second and third show, but their attenuation vs frequency just doesn't match music or my ears. Next show, whenever that is, no matter where we sit I think I'm going to get a pair of "musicians" ear plugs. Apparently I can get a recommendation from my audiologist based on my hearing (they just did a test a couple years ago) and then just buy on-line. I've read they are not that expensive, around $40. Anyway I'm gonna check that out.
We went to a totally different kind of concert Friday night. It was Christmas concert, which meant basically a "full" orchestra of students. Last time we sat on the second row center and the sound was great. Friday we got there a little late and sat about 1/3 of the way up. Sound was great, in fact the first row and 1/3 up sounded the same. The soundboard for the auditorium was stage center way up near the back. I complemented the man on his mixing on the way out.
I realize this is an apples to oranges comparison - this was not an on-stage rock concert. There were no on-stage amps or speakers. I counted around 12-15 microphones scattered around the stage, and three large ones hanging from the ceiling. They were using good sized line array speakers on each side and one in the center with some kind of very large "black box" above it. Not sure what that was. There were also a few smaller ceiling speakers about 1/2 way up.
The auditorium holds about 2,400 people and it was almost full which should give you some kind idea of the size. The design of the auditorium has some special name, forgot it, but it's described as some type of indoor amphitheater. The unnamed university (which is where I went to college) has $$$ and I heard they spared NO expense on acoustics when they built it.
I wonder what a rock band like BOC would sound like there? Could be great or terrible. They used to host various concerts there, but COVID shut that down. Basically they quit hosting rock concerts there many years ago. We went to Peter, Paul and Mary there a number of years ago and the sound was fantastic - better than a studio album. I could hear them breathing at times. Again, a different kind of band.
Not trying to hijack the thread, in fact no response expected. But I guess where you sit for the best sound depends on a LOT of factors. Just an observation that jumped out at me big time Friday night.

But with all that said, I like to move around a venue for different perspectives.
