Hi Buck,
I'm working on a song project for a friend and we want to recreate a single instance if a famous guitar riff (not BOC!) as the song fades out. I think this would be very similar to the Smoke on the Water riff played 1X in The Marshal Plan but even less prominent. Did the band have to get copyright permissions for that back in the day? Thanks!

No. Not like we were trading on the riff. I wouldn't worry about it for your usage.

Yeah, it starts at a low level and fades quickly from there. About 5 secs worth. Funny, the songwriter is a semi-retired lawyer specializing in Maritime affairs. Pirating might mean something different to him. Thanks for the feedback Buck & Duck!

What about using the Godzilla riff as part of a song?

Wouldn't want Buck to show up at my door and beat the snot out of me. Of course, if he signed a few of my BOC albums first, I'd give him a free shot!

What about using the Godzilla riff as part of a song? Or a LedZep HEARTBREAKER lick inside of Godzilla :-)

Or El Condor Pasa at the end of Joan Crawford In the Hall of the Mountain King, by Grieg. "In the Hall of the Mountain King, by Grieg" is apparently a "public domain work", so I'm guessing he's unlikely to sue... plus he's long dead, so that sort of limits his options anyway...

What with DNA testing nowadays descendants could come out of the woodwork for all of eternity to make a money grab. Can't be to careful! Oh, and is that a little spritz of Caravan at the end of Moon Crazy?
