Warning: SOBAK Post!
Today, after making it through my Spring semester, I celebrate my 5-year anniversary of becoming a dedicated BOC fan/SOBAK member. Although I first saw Blue Oyster Cult in 2012, it wasn't until May 17th, 2014 that I became a more dedicated follower of the band after a surprising encounter with Buck Dharma outside of the Arcada Theater. I didn't even know Buck's name until after I had found him outside the backstage door. Despite this, I was still starstruck, knowing that he was a guitarist for the band of a familiar name.
My whole perspective on concert-going was changed forever. I was 17 back when I first met Buck, and upon encounter outside the venue rather than an expensive meet greet, I became more attracted to seeing bands/musicians at smaller live show venues where there's either no cost to meet them or minimal payment for a meet and greet. Since then, so much has happened regarding my devotion towards Buck and the band. Over a year later, I joined the current forum site, became good friends with Buck on this site and the other members on FB, created so much fanart, made Buck's YouTube banner, launched my own fanpage, and eventually became his social media manager! It has been such an honor over the years to be part of this community, and I look forward to what the next 5 years will be like.
(PS: I really wanted to make an anniversary illustration on time before today, but because my college schedule before completing the semester was full of so many projects and final assignments, including a final online exam, I just didn't have the time. However, I still want to work on it and at the very least before the end of next week now that the semester is over and that I'll have a significantly lighter schedule from now on due to having nearly all my requirements done and out of way for both of my degrees.)

Awesome Emily!! I became a BOC fan in 1973 while in the Army in Baumholder Germany. Met Buck (and Eric & Allen) a few times in the early '80's and '90's, have all my albums signed, seen them about 30 times. I never amounted to anything in the BOC world these past 46 years other than being a hard-core fan. You on the other hand are a shining star. Don't forget us and continue to do us great Emily...

> both of my degrees BOTH? As in... more than one...? Yikes!! I just KNEW there was a reason I was so under-qualified - you've got 'em all!! BTW: I first "met" Buck in 1975 - well, I say "met", what I actually mean is, me and my mate hung around the stage door until the band turned up for the gig, and I gave Buck a red Liverpool FC football scarf before he could escape from us, and he looked at me with a "WTF is this bloody thing you've draped over my shoulders" type expression... Oh well, after getting my "Secret Treaties" cover signed by the band, we then went into the venue and caught the end of the support act... then, during the interval, I was watching the BOC roadies in the dark going about readying the stage for BOC's upcoming performance, and I noticed one roadie, in a sling as it happened, who was going about knob-twiddling and cable-tying, and with stunned disbelief I saw that he was wearing MY Liverpool FC scarf!! Buck had clearly ditched it as soon as he was through the stage doors... If I had been hoping for a "I'd like to thank the people who gave me this little scarf - I'll keep it and cherish it forever" type moment during the gig, I was obviously going to be sadly disappointed... I was extremely crestfallen... a state which lasted right up to the blinding flash-pot explosion that met the opening chords of "Stairway to the Stars", after which I was able to place my disappointment into some sort of context, because that was the BEST gig I have ever seen by anybody ever... #swings_and_roundabouts
