Greetings everyone,
I just signed up so I could post this. Quick bio: My first concert ever was BOC, Fire of Unknown Origin. Foghat opened. Been a fan since and have seen the band 7 times now. Even got to see them as the Soft White Underbelly at the Newport Music Hall in the early nineties (got the shirt too!). Fast forward to last Friday night. BOC played at the Midland Theater in Newark, Ohio. I was able to do a quick meet and great back stage before the show and I requested that they play Dominance and Submission and/or ME 262. I was pretty much like Ralphie on A Christmas Story when I bleated out as validation for my playlist request that I had seen them as Soft White Underbelly. About 30 minutes in, Eric announced the next song as one from our Secret Treaties album. They played ME 262. First time ever that I have seen them do it. It was awesome and I broke 3 picks on my air guitar during that song.
Anyway, not sure if the band ever checks this forum, or if anyone here has a way to contact the band and maybe pass this along, but I just wanted to say thanks for playing my request. It made an already memorable night even more special.
We got a pic with the band, but without knowing the rules right now I wont post it unless it's ok.
Thanks if anyone knows how to pass this thank you to the band,
Mitch
Edit: 24 Sep
I found the old ticket, it was 1985. I didn't mean to cause such a fuss. My apologies.

Soft White Underbelly show in early nineties ? Ralph ? You're right to highlight that - the last known SWU show was 31 Dec 1985 (I suppose, technically, it actually took place on 1 Jan 1986)... the SWU gig at Newport Music Hall was 21 Apr 1985:

Wow, tough crowd. It seems as though this place is skeptical of new people or clichish. That surprises me because I would have thought this would be more of an adult group. I'm sorry that you don't believe me about the show, but it was a classic Soft White Underbelly and was only announced briefly on QFM on Kristi Kempers Rock Notes. I can post a pic of the 81 show shirt and the Soft White Underbelly shirt also if that will satisfy you, but I don't see where I can attach or paste. My apologies for intruding, but I would still ask that anyone who has the ability to pass on my appreciation to the band do so.

Thanks for stopping in cols. Put your feet up and stay a while !
This is actually a great and generally friendly forum...not to mention the boss himself Buck posts here fairly regularly.
I was lucky enough to catch a few SWU shows myself ! Fun stuff.

And I happen to now where to find a recording of this particular 1997 Port Jefferson show. So I checked. The show is definitely introduced as "Blue Öyster Cult". But. Here's the txt file from the show. "Here is my favorite recording of BOC that I've ever managed to capture. This was billed as a Soft White Underbelly show. I think the last time the band had used that billing was around the Club Ninja era. Pyramid opened the night; featuring Bobby Rondinelli on drums, Danny Miranda on bass and George Cintron on guitar and lead vocals. They played a great opening set of very cool cover tunes and one or two original songs. For most of the BOC show, I stood about fifteen feet in front of Buck. Allen and Eric are a little lower in the mix because of this.Teddy Rondinelli joined the band for COF, and George Cintron helped out on LDOM. Tape flip after Live For Me, and during the drum solo." now, it would really help if we had actual bills or tickets from this show.

I can post a pic of the 81 show shirt and the Soft White Underbelly shirt also if that will satisfy you, but I don't see where I can attach or paste.
there's a "add attachement" button at right of the Create Post box.

You can always check A Fact About Sneakers at HotRailsToHull I've been corrected on something posted more than once, but I've also contributed dozens of accurate setlists, as well. You are definitely in the right place at the right time. Would love to see your pics. If you are signed in, you can click "Add Attachment" in the upper right hand corner. Try to reduce the photos and they will look great. Buck checks in here all the time. After all, he's the CEO of this place!

Blimey - that's a new one on me! Can I just ask - by "SWU show" do you mean it was actually advertised as such? And, if so, was it a printed source or just a verbal/audio reference eg on local radio...? I've just re-checked all the online newspaper sources for 1997, but that gig annoyingly isn't listed... all we do have to go on is the tape of the show itself which I haven't heard myself, but Gerard says there's no mention of SWU on that - just BOC... On the face of it, suddenly announcing a one-off gig as SWU after all those years seems a bit strange - if that was the case, all I can think of is maybe it was some sort of Long Island in-joke type of thing? There were some early SWU gigs in Port Jeff at what Albert called the Black Dungeon (aka "The In Crowd") around early 1968 - I don't have any location info for that venue, but if it was in the same vicinity as the (now) Village Pub, then that might have prompted a nostalgic one-off/impromptu change of billing for the evening...? Dunno... it's intriguing...

As I remember it, and you should know by now Ralph my memory is not all that great. Danny and his band had a regular spot at the Village Pub whenever they were in town. BOC had a show the following night at Tramps in NYC ...(I got to watch that show with Albert and Billy Hilfiger, a very cool experience)
I think the band just decided to play a warm up show and have some fun. The stage was so small a lot of the regular gear would not fit. I think that place held maybe 250 people. The show was probably advertised on WBAB radio, the rock station at the time on Long Island.

As I remember it, and you should know by now Ralph my memory is not all that great. I bet it's better than mine... :-) OK, cheers for that extra info - I'll add it to the entry for that gig and see if anyone else can contribute any other info - from what you say, it does all sound rather impromptu and off the cuff... > BOC had a show the following night at Tramps in NYC ...(I got to watch that show with Albert and Billy Hilfiger, a very cool experience)
Ha! I'll bet! BTW: What was Albert's verdict of Bobby Rondinelli - do you recall...?
