Thank you, eastmark. So kind of you. 💐
I've given this some more thought and came to the conclusion that it's no stranger to think of BÖC as a heavy metal band than it was to award Jethro Tull the very first Grammy for Hard Rock/Heavy Metal. Which the Recording Academy did, having selected them over Iggy Pop, Jane's Addiction, AC/DC and Metallica. At least BÖC has recorded music with strong heavy metal elements. It's not an insult to think of them as heavy metal, it's just that they strongly defy categorization, and heavy metal may not provide the best concept.

To me it always seemed as if BOC were much more eclectic than reviewers and critics gave them credit for, and that while they have made some heavy metal/prog metal songs such as Seven Screaming Diz-Busters of Black Blade. It never occurs to me to think of them as a heavy metal band. For every Diz-Buster there's a Redeemed. For every Dominance & Submission there's an Astronomy. Even their first album, while having a Steppenwolf kind of sound to some of the songs, is too varied to qualify as a metal album. There's some metal stuff going down, but there was also psychedelia, country rock, soft rock, etc. Agents of Fortune had its harder rock moments (the article mentioned Summer of Love and ETI), but there was also the usual psychedelic aspects (Tenderloin, Tattoo Vampire), soft rock (Debbie Denise, True Confessions, Morning Final), and some genre-blending songs like DTFR, Sinful Love or The Revenge of Vera Gemini). I mean, they've made heavy metal songs but they could just as easily be called a psychadelic rock band or a pop-rock band depending on what mix of songs you're using.

Also I loved how Jethro Tull members seemed to have a sort of "I'm just as confused as you are" kind of vibe when they won that Grammy lol

For a while I remember seeing "heavy metal lite" or light metal as terms to describe the band. They absolutely defy categorization, always have. Just from the Ocean's post, it is easy to see how wide the variations in the songs are. If you add the Elektra recording to that list, the range becomes even broader. I think even the term proto metal is misleading, although that seems to be the current category BOC is stuffed into.

Heads up, the new album is gonna be even more varied than most of the legacy stuff. Any Song sound like it could break out from The Secret Handshake Fans, Buck? (We'll love them all, either way!)

These lists are always great conversation pieces. I've never considered BOC to be a heavy metal band, although many of their songs no doubt qualify as metal, and I certainly would not have chosen Agents to represent BOC as a metal band, even loaded with Summer Of Love and Tattoo Vampire. Secret Treaties or On Your Feet would have been my choice, so there you have it. However, BOC is far closer to metal than Triumph, Van Halen, or Grand Funk. I guess we could try to nail down just what heavy metal is for hours.
Agents Of Fortune is an amazing album and I've always considered it to be the entry way to the second version of BOC, departing from the sound of the first four albums, almost all bands change directions at least once in their career. When I think of the ultimate heavy metal album the first album that comes to mind is Judas Priests Unleashed In The East, so they came pretty close with Sad Wings, I'm not too far off! I would never call the first Nugent album metal either, and that is by far my favorite album Ted has ever put out, I just love Derek's voice and what he did for the band. Overall I really like the list, so many of my favorite albums and bands made it.
Delightfully odd outfit..... I like it!!!
