It was great at the Drive-In show this month. That I can tell you.

My impression is that there is some of Stephen King style "presence" maybe due to evil deeds done when the "Spaniards burned the town" or the war? "I know they'll find her some day They find them all that way After the thaw in springtime The snow melts away" The land demands a sacrifice every year?

I always thought it was about a cursed place. Like... there is something wrong with this land and bad things are always bound to happen.

Maestro...is this about a werewolf or no? Why a "werewolf" in particular? - that's so specific... fans of "Supernatural" will readily understand that there are any number of beasties out there capable of "disconveniencing" Bobrow's youngest daughter...

I think that the evil is not a specific think because the unknown is scarier.

>werewolf
The mechanism of bad is unstated. Only that the area would suffer from cyclical periods of bad stuff happening, then periods of peace and harmony. Only the old timers would be hip to it, and there was an almost conscious effort to ignore it as long as it was dormant, and not speak of it when it wasn't.
It was inspired by the evil that Stephen King describes in many of his books. The way the town of Derry is afflicted with bouts of evil stuff. The way the Overlook is fouled by evil.

Thank you, sir, for the awesome response. I thought about the whole "presence" thing in terms of the King Derry phenomenon...but I guess I got sidetracked by the title and the lines about disappearing livestock and how 'they find them all that way.' It's the lawyer in me, overthinking lol. I'm just glad my mind is starting to work again, and thankful for your reply!

Dunno, really, beyond the title and the disappearing livestock (and Bobrow's child). You're absolutely right though, it could be (and sounds like it is) "anything." Sometimes the most malevolent forces are the unknown.

So it’s not NOT werewolves

Ah well, there's the thing... the malevolence is "unstated"... it could be anything...
BTW: Buck mentioned The Overlook... this superb Joe Bouchard track has always made me think of that film:
