"Love on the Wrong Side of Town" by Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. Southside is just an amazing emotive singer on these kinds of songs. Written by Steve Van Zandt and Bruce Springsteen. On our way out of town a few weeks back, my wife and I had on the Springsteen channel on Sirius, and they were playing an interview from home that Bruce did recently with Little Steven and Southside. It was fascinating hearing all the old stories and the past history they shared.

Your post makes me think of Anton (long-time BOC fan who passed away this last winter) and how much he liked Southside Johnny. Good memories.

Southside Johnny, Steve Van Zandt, and Bruce Springsteen were friends long before anyone had a record deal. These guys are like family. Bruce would often write a song and give it away to Southside Johnny because Bruce knew Southside would add the magic element. Southside has that great New Jersey sense of humor. And because he knew Bruce before he was famous(they were once roommates) he often lovingly insults Bruce when they perform together onstage as only a true old friend can. Love those guys!

Been to many, many Bruce shows (including getting upgraded to the front row back at the last NJ show on the ‘99 reunion tour and slapping Bruce’s hand during Out In the Street), but the only time I’ve ever seen SSJ was at one of the Xmas shows at Comvention Hall in Asbury Park in 2000. As a life long New Jerseyan, I’ve got to rectify that!
And I never met Anton, unfortunately. By time I got to “know” him from the BOC Fans Site, his attendance at BOC shows had slowed after he lost his wife. And I was never able to hook up with him thereafter, much to my chagrin.

If we're talking sad Fleetwood Mac, we gotta include Man of the World, too. Also pretty much every somg on Rumours.

My wife and I saw Southside Johnny reopen a theater in Norwalk after its conversion from movies to live performances. There were literally more people on stage than in the audience, with the size of the band. They rocked the joint anyway. As the son of a trumpet player, I always loved their usage of horns.

"I Can't Make You Love Me" Bonnie Riatt. "Mollie" by Lil Dickie is pretty heartbreaking too. Never heard this before listening just now. I like it, especially how the piano at the beginning turns into a sort of bright popping synth sound that takes a little bit of the piano sound enough so that it blends at first, but is different enough that it doesn't feel like it's just some effect that's added on top of the existing track. It's pretty sad, too. LOVE Brendon Urie's voice. And Brandon Flowers from The Killers. The Killers and Panic! at the Disco are both really great modern/contemporary bands, and both Brændons (lol) are my favorite singers to come upon the scene in the last 20 years.

It messed me up for a few days.
