I'd like to see who else has a top 5 or 10 or so and what bands or artists are on it besides BÖC. BÖC has occupied the #1 spot for me since about 1999. I became a huge fan of them and Pearl Jam at about the same time, and they are quite different kinds of bands.
If I were to think of artists I love on a similar level to BÖC, I can narrow it down to less than ten (in alphabetical order) plus my favorite albums by each:
Garbage (Version 2.0)
Golden Earring (Eight Miles High)
Billy Joel (The Nylon Curtain)
The Kinks (The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society)
Pearl Jam (Yield)
Queen (Queen II)
Rush (A Farewell to Kings)
Tears For Fears (Everybody Loves a Happy Ending)
Frank Zappa (Roxy & Elsewhere)
These represent the bands for whom I own either every album, am still obtaining more with the goal of owning every one, or have most that are available. I have more official releases from Frank Zappa and Pearl Jam simply because of the artists listed, they have released far more non-bootleg/official releases. If Frontier started putting out Blue Öyster Cult releases for each live show, I can guarantee I'd have more by them too. I do have every pre-Imaginos BÖC record on vinyl, plus every official release of theirs on CD. The Kinks I have over a dozen of their albums on CD and a few more on vinyl. One of my favorites of theirs is the VERY underrated (IMO) Word of Mouth. I could also listen to the entire run of albums from Something Else through Muswell Hillbillies in one listening session. Same with BOC from their debut through Fire of Unknown Origin, Golding Earring from Eight Miles High through Cut. All of Pearl Jam's albums except for Riot Act, I have listened to every Billy Joel record in order (except for Cold Spring Harbor which I don't own yet) several times. Etc.
I'm curious what other bands y'all really listen to or love on a similar level as BOC. And I especially want to see if there are some other bands I should be listening to regularly that I've just missed. Somebody told me I'd love REO Speedwagon once.
