Not trying to be political, just delete this thread if it offends. The corona virus is infecting 40,000 people daily in the USA right now, DFTR?

Can't say for sure whether I had it or not since I tested negative. But this April I was sicker than I ever have been in my whole life, with nasty GI issues, muscle pain, severe fatigue, and transient loss of smell. I had a dry cough but it wasn't constant. And the loss of smell and these particular GI issues have stayed ever since I originally got sick, even though I'm over it now. In fact my periodic loss of smell, which goes in and out basically, is getting more frequent. My wife also had a pretty nasty illness at exactly the same time, similar issues to me but she didn't have the GI problems or the loss of smell, although she had way more issues with muscle pain than I did.
Was it COVID-19? I *THINK* it was because the timing of this many symptoms together as well as us getting severely sick in a way we never have before right at the first peak of it. But we both tested negative. I don't trust the test is accurate enough to believe it HAS to be right, but because it was negative I wasn't given a diagnosis. So who is to say? All I know is, that if what we had WAS COVID-19, then everybody needs to be taking this much more seriously, because when I leave the house to get groceries once every two weeks (seriously, that's all I leave the house now), I see MANY people without masks. This April was the single most unpleasant experience of my life, without exaggeration. I've had broken bones less painful. I've been BEATEN UP so severely it left scars. Both of those pale in comparison to the peak of our illnesses. I was sick for three and a half weeks, and about half of that time was so unpleasant that I wished I could have been drugged into a coma.
So. Politics aside, this stuff is serious business. Take care of yourselves, wear your masks in public, wash your hands with soap and water when you can, hand sanitizer when you can't, and socially distance as much as humanly possible. I miss my friends, but I sure as heck don't want to get sick again.
What's the saying from Hill Street Blues? Let's be careful out there!

My wife has been battling breast cancer for over a year now. Chemo every three weeks, single breast mastectomy, staph infection, second surgery to fix infection, and looking forward to five weeks of radiation. Her lowered immune system had me terrified at first, now downgraded to just worried. My best friend, a long time gym rat, barely survived it. I live in CT, we are supposedly doing well. I see masks all the time in the stores, but for some reason the Post Office does not enforce the mandate. Your illness sounds a lot like covid, which becomes deadly when it attacks the respiratory system. I think we might have had a very mild case run through us, 4 days worth of GI problems and muscle pain only. I give it to the mask doubters when I encounter them, but tread lightly because I forgot mine once when in a store. My visits to the store are more frequent, but I echo your need for protection. Sipowitz was cool.

He was indeed - but that was NYPD Blue... Dennis Franz WAS in Hill Street though, and actually played TWO characters in that during the course of the run... but I think Mick was always my favourite... Hope your wife pulls through this crappy time OK - there's a second wave lurking on the threshold so now is NOT the time to relax restrictions, so stay safe... and yes, Phil Esterhaus was right: "Let's Be Careful Out there..."

It's during events like these where I'm a bit thankful that I live in Illinois instead of a state that has it a lot worse (even though Illinois has been having a surge), because even upon coming across people complaining about masks online, *most* people I've seen in real life have been taking it seriously by wearing masks and practicing social distancing. I carry several masks in my car in handy so I never forget to put one on whenever I head out plus some bottles of hand sanitizer. I'm also kind of glad I'm currently not attending college in-person, because there were reported cases from some students and faculty staff early on during the pandemic from my hometown. Even after the campus had reopened, I still would be highly reluctant about taking an in-person class there, because I don't want to ever test positive for Covid-19.
I hope you and your wife are doing okay now as we're going through such a crappy year.

Agree! This must be taken seriously! BTW, this is a tune I hum to for washing hands : Three things: First, this is what I sing when washing my hands. Two rounds lasts 20 seconds Second, I'm sorry that you are having to do online learning. I had to do that for my final semester and the stress was pretty brutal. I hope your school is doing a good job of it. Third, thank you. The year is pretty crappy but perhaps we will have a viable vaccine soon and we'll turn a corner. I hope you are safe and healthy.

I should have known, watched both shows regularly. Chalk it up to a senior moment, even though I am under 65. The wife is buying me the symbol as a 64th birthday present, later this week. When we were first married I used to joke about "When I'm 64", it is hard to believe I am actually there.
