Every guitar player moves up one notch today. Eddie was the Hendrix of his generation.

An incredible innovator and stylistic pioneer; as a great lead guitarist he was not alone in the world, he was however - no doubt - the finest rhythm player ever.

When my daughter yelled out to me that he had died, I froze, just as I did when I got the notification on my phone that Neil Peart has died.
As I mentioned over at J&A, it is hard to put into words what it was like as a 16 year old seeing Van Halen tear the roof off Madison Square Garden back in 1982. I never saw Zeppelin, but I have to think my experience was similar to seeing Zep at their peak. That concert was only my third ever show, the first being BOC at MSG in ‘81. And from then on, I never looked back.
Devastated.

Very sad, one of the few that really did change music. I missed seeing them, one of the few (if not only) times they played here in Sydney Australia was when another band played their only stand alone gig here. Not sure but I think their name was Blue Oyster Cult

Very sad. I saw VH supporting Black Sabbath in 1978. Sabbath were as ever good but only the most one eyed of Sabbath freaks present didn't think that VH blew them off stage that night. EVH's guitar playing was draw droppingly then & always. VH even got away with DLR not knowing that the gig wasn't in Birmingham; "Birmingham! You're the rock n roll capital of the world!" Pity he was in Stoke! RIP EVH.

So Blessed to have seen Eddie in all the Variations. Women and Children First Tour, 1984, 5150, OU812, and 2 Non-Album Tours later. Eddie made a Van Halen Show Super-Special

Saw VH a total of 9 times, the most recent being their final tour in 2015. They were on fire that tour. With Eddie, you just knew you were witnessing greatness. And I’m grateful that while they’ve never put out a proper live DVD with DLR, they did allow fans to shoot video the last two tours, so there are a ton of great and complete shows from the 2012 and 2015 tours.
