I might be going out on a limb with this one, but I can't stand Jim Morrison. I love Ray and Robby and John, and I think they would have been a dynamic hit with any decent singer/lyricists. I think Morrison hobbled them in the end because they just couldn't make a go of it without him. Yeah, he was a sensation, but his antics and personality made him that, not the actual music. Sandy Pearlman's early BOC lyrics have been described as word salad, well I'd describe Jim Morrison's attempts at poeticism as word vomit. There are very rare songs outside of that first album that I like listening to. His voice is aggravating. I VASTLY prefer BOC's version of Roadhouse Blues because, aside from the fact that it's a well done piece of music in general, it doesn't have Jim Morrison drunkenly doing his version of scatting throughout the middle section. If I actually owned a copy of Morrison Hotel anymore I'd probably throw it out all over again the second I heard that. I think Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, and John Densmore were robbed of a much longer musical career because of the shadow Morrison cast. Sure, they all made money and have prestige, but I would have loved to have seen a steady output from the band they could have become throughout the end of the 70's and possibly onward. I'm not saying that I wish they had never hooked up with Jim Morrison per se, because that debut album is still dynamite, but I really wish that they could have continued ever onward with a new singer, like AC/DC or Iron Maiden have successfully done. Funny I once sold a cd on Ebay to guy who run a music club in Calif mid-60's and he said he got close with Morrison and he thought Jim was one of the brightest guys he'd ever met.Anyways if you think Pearlman's lyrics were called word salad look at how these bozos on J&A are killing most of the SR lyrics. One guy totally didn't get the lyrics to Fight and was mouthing off about it.They hate Shirleys lyrics too.Kinda glad not to be posting there-the idiocy is raging. BTW I've always loved Goin Thru The Motions.Sam hated it but like me loved Madness To The Method.Go figure.

I don't wish to impugn anybody's taste or preferences, but my opinion on John Shirley's lyrics are that if I can love the Black & White era with lyrics like She's as Beautiful as a Foot, I can love most of John Shirley's lyrics.

Of course Beautiful As A Foot is a goof but so are a lot of lyrics-hard to believe some folks don't see that. There are many ways to write lyrics that entertain just like there are many genres of film, etc. The last thing I want to do is have any art form have to conform to what I want it to be.Except be good(to me).

Bob Dylan is overrated. Discuss I would say I agree given his body of work as a whole, but the first decade of his career is absolutely phenomenal. And take me disappearing through the smoke rings of my mind Down the foggy ruins of time Far past the frozen leaves The haunted frightened trees Out to the windy beach Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free Silhouetted by the sea Circled by the circus sands With all memory and fate Driven deep beneath the waves Let me forget about today until tomorrow

I think that the Eagles should have hung it up after Glenn Frey died. Maybe they still have some good music in them but I don’t hear Eagles without Glen. From what I’ve heard, Rush is in no hurry get busy without Neal, and I have huge respect for that.

I like disco. Most of it. So I take it you like Searching for Celine and Going Thru the Motions? Or Going Thru The Bowel Motions, one man's struggle with constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. Celine was the name of his beloved laxative.

One of my favourite BOC songs is Let Go. There, I said it. Almost with you on that, but Dragon Lady and Feel the Thunder should be played live.

Wings were the band that The Beatles could have been if they'd tried a bit harder ?!?!
