I can see a grass dance set to that. On second thought, it's a Round dance type of song.

Ha, always loved this tune. I loved all novelty tunes when I was a kid, which might explain why there's a couple of songs on "Symbol" which come dangerously close. Regularly over the decades, when I'd have to pack out for a tour or fly date, I'd sing this song out loud, only change the lyric to "Please Mr. Pearlman." I still do it, even though Sandy Pearlman is gone now, and had been out of the managerial position for many years. I'd never seen a picture of Larry Verne before, but his look just screams 'Country.' There must have been a certain genetic predisposition to Country and Western artists at some point in this era of time.

The Top 40 had no limits and novelty tunes were just another part of the process.Country groups and singers crossed over and yeah Verne looked and sounded the part of a country singer.Buchanan and Goodman had the whole series and Monster Mash was the classic of the genre(the story of how that became a hit is a hoot as is the first hit by Skip and Flip) as it was recorded and produced by Gary Paxton(GarPax Records )who was Flip to Skip Battin in Skip and Flip. The studio was so simplified it had no talk back so Paxton had to basically open the door and yell down to the performers but his studio was used often by many Calif artists. This,Speedy Gonzalez(Pat Booke and Mel Blanc) and Yogi by Ivy Three who had Charles Koppleman(famous music producer) in that group are my favorites. As for country Mule Skinner Blues was a sort of novelty too .Fun stuff.

Did you see that Tom Lehrer has placed all of his songs into the public domain? www.marketplace.org/2020/10/21/satirist-tom-lehrer-put-his-songs-into-public-domain/Nothing more poetic than the line "it's not against any religion/to want to dispose of a pigeon." LOL
