Personally it felt funny to do outside material by 'pop songwriters.' I said the only pop songs that I ever felt like might have been written by BOC was "Dancin'" and "White Flags." Story: We'd played an outdoor show in the Northwest with Brian Adams after Reaper hit. We hung out a bit. Much later Brian is talking in an interview about his hit, "Run to You." He said he wrote it for BOC but we'd turned it down. I don't think I'd ever heard it when that decision was made. It must have gone to Sandy Pearlman and Murray Krugman, who passed because it wasn't "BOC." Can you imagine if I'd sung that song with BOC after Reaper? On the Spectres record? Would it have been as big a hit for us? I don't know. NOT SO SURE I WOULD HAVE RUN WITH THAT ONE,SURELY WOULD HAVE SOUNDED VERY DIFFERENT.

Probably would have ended up fitting better on Mirrors than Spectres I'll bet. Maybe Band Geeks could do it as a goof with some special BOC guests lol. I kind of wonder: if Run to You ended up on Spectres and something else were left off, would the one which was left off being revealed as an outtake in 2020 be a point of debate as to how it fits in with the larger catalogue. Good point about something else left off of Spectres. If we didn't release a song on a Columbia record, we didn't think it was good enough. It took us a few records to finish "Fire Of Unknown Origin" for instance, even though we always thought it was a good enough song.

Speaking about "Spectres" outtakes, "Night Flyer" was a fine piece of music IMHO. (as the credits on the remaster were messed up quite a bit, I think I read on Morning Final it was a song of Joe's, partially re-written by Buck)

As for “Run To You”, I read somewhere that it was written for BÖC in early 1983, which would have put it on RBN, (maybe y’all would have done it, instead of Eyes On Fire) which might have been ok, but I’d sure hate to pick a song off of Spectres to lose, in place of Run To You, hit or not. If it hadn’t been on Bryan Adam’s “Reckless”, it may have not been such a hit, for him, much less BÖC. Don’t get me wrong, I love the song, would have enjoyed it on RBN, but it’s no ILTN or GAOL, at least, not compared to the finished product and decades of reverence.
