I'm a big fan of Big Star, Badfinger and the Flamin' Groovies. I love the genre, in general. The Remains are good too, perhaps a little more towards the garage rock end of the spectrum, with a little more grit.

I'm a child of the 1960's, so Three Dog Night is the power-pop band that I remember hearing the most on the radio. I really like some of the covers that they did, like The Band's "Chest Fever", and Argent's "Liar".

Loved Three Dog Night-my fave is Out In The Country.Saw them at a free show in Brooklyn late 80's there were only two dogs left.
Didn't see the list yet but if Rockpile isn't on it or Marshall Crenswhaw it doesn't count.
Was never a huge big Star fan but loved Chilton and the BoxTops.

Alex Chilton, what a singer. He was what, 16 years old or so in the BoxTops?
Marshall Crenshaw's first album is a classic.

Squeeze is power pop nu? Love the band again how do you leave them out? I don't think of them as power pop, but Argy Bargy IS one of my favorite albums.

Easy to forget how HUGE Three Dog Night was in their prime.
Easy To Be Hard might be my fav Dog tune. Out In The Country , Mama Told Me Not To Come, Eli’s Coming....all killer tunes that make me smile.
Love that stuff !

Three Dog Night were from a time when bands recorded songs written by others. Laura Nyro, Elton John/Bernie Taupin, Paul Williams, Hoyt Axton, and Harry Nilsson-for example. That in no way detracts from their place in music history, IMHO. I loved Badfinger(what little we heard on the radio), and The Cars were great until they ran out of steam. Having seen Buck play with Cheap Trick on youtube was cool.

Badfinger had such great songs. No Matter What, Baby Blue (one of the BEST pop songs EVER written IMO), Day After Day.
Fun story about Day After Day: when I was driving my wife and I somewhere a few years back, a song came on the radio I had never heard before but my wife loved. But my immediate reaction was "what the hell?! This is a ripoff of Badfinger!" She was confused because she didn't really know Badfinger songs. I told her full stop the entire melody was lifted from Day After Day by Badfinger, so when we made our first stop, I got out my phone and started playing Day After Day and her jaw dropped. Not like as a metaphor. Her mouth was literally hanging open in shock like a cartoon character.
The song that was on the radio was Breaking us in Two by Joe Jackson.
And interestingly enough, I did not like that song but it was the first one I had ever heard by Joe Jackson except for the one on the There's Something About Mary soundtrack. I didn't think it was a bad song even with the wholesale lifting of that melody, but we kept playing that station and soon enough I heard more Joe Jackson songs and really loved them.

Ha. I love just about all the acts mentioned. When someone said Squeeze, I thought of XTC also. Then I thought of The Sweet, which preceded power pop I guess.

There are a lot of Squeeze songs I feel like could be covered well by you and vice versa. I always thought you and Glenn Tilbrook had similar voices. I can imagine/hear him singing Burnin' for You or you singing Another Nail in My Heart lol.
