Jim Seals died yesterday, June 6, 2022 after a brief illness at age 80. Rest In Peace! Singer-songwriter, musician of the 1970’s soft rock duo Seals and Crofts. He had several Top 10 hits and Gold Records including: “Summer Breeze” “Diamond Girl” “Get Closer.” Other charted songs include: “Hummingbird” “We May Never Pass This Way Again” “I’ll Play For You” “You’re the Love.” Seals and Crofts started in The Champs(after Tequila) and then went on the road backing up Glen Campbell early 60's.Another group that had a long history before they hit big. S&C were Baha'i believers that stood by their beliefs by releasing the song Unborn Child that stalled the forward momentum of their career; great songwriters that were backed by impeccable studio greats.

During their early/mid 70's time-frame it was almost impossible to not hear one of their songs on the car radio going back and forth from college, work, general nighttime mischief. I learned something new today after all these years. I always heard them advertised as " Seals and Croft" (without the " s" at the end). Not sure that's what the DJ's / classmates actually said, or if I just heard what I was expecting to hear. I guess I just never saw their names printed anywhere to think otherwise. RIP. I just looked for other references without the "s". Guess it wasn't just me. You can actually see a poster as such at: www.classicposters.com/performer/seals-and-croft/

Scottish avant-pop musician Sophie and Hilton Valentine from the original Animals Just a little extra info: Hilton Valentine was the original guitarist in The Animals. "Valentine is credited with the electric guitar arpeggio introduction to the Animals' 1964 signature song 'The House of the Rising Sun', which inspired countless beginning guitarists." Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilton_Valentine#The_AnimalsIt has a link to the description of arpeggio for us non-musicians.

Aw. I didn't realize Seals and Crofts were in The Champs. I think The Champs must have been a studio band before "Tequila" was a hit, and they put together a band for the road after. That record is one of the best sounding 45's of its time, or any time. The music just leaps off the turntable. In the Spotify era, check out Seals and Crofts' "Down Home" LP. Before their big pop hits. It's a great long player, and the whole disk is listenable.

Glen Campbell was in The Champs too which is how they met and how they ended up in his backup band-Glen didn't need a guitar player for obvious reasons probably as prolific a studio player as anyone he once did 600 sessions in one year.

I remember owning the Sudan Village live record. Listening now, it seems like it was thematically similar to Paul Simon's Graceland record, 1972 -vs- 1986.

Not a musician, but you may know of him if you are/were in the entertainment business or a DJ. Joel Whitburn, Founder of Record Research Inc. passed away on June 14, 2022 at age 82 "Record Research has published reference books based on data from the various popular music charts and to date has published over 200 books, 50 of which are in the Record Research catalog. His research extends from 1890 to the present and covers many genres. Featuring each recording's peak position, date charted, weeks charted, label and information, and trivia on recordings and artists, Whitburn's books are used extensively by the entertainment industry (especially radio DJs) and music fans worldwide."Source and credit to: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joel_WhitburnHe was also a collector with around 150,000 singles/albums/CDs. Supposedly has all records ever listed in the Billboard Hot 100.

Over 35 pages shown here and no telling how many people have not been mentioned. And the ages are getting a little too close for comfort. The only stats I can use to put things in perspective is to look at the "In Memory" entries on my high school website for my graduating class. 57 out of 534. That's over 10%. And that's just the people we know about, so the number could be double. Fortunately the count doesn't seem to be escalating based on age. X3 Zen, As a member of a 500+ senior class back in 74, you got me thinking. I went to the alumni list, it is 35 names long. I wonder how many are no longer with us, but it is not high on my list.

I was just a few years earlier than you. Just checked and 285 are registered - 53%. A lot of those listed here in the Closing Chord have been in their 70's, which I'm not too far away from.
