BTW How do you write a song LIKE Pina Colada that's not Pina Colada? Ok, bad examples, but then, who would want to?

Say what you want about Rupert Holmes' 'Escape (The Pina Colada Song)', but from a musical standpoint, it's a well-crafted pop tune that not only resonated at its release with a large number of people but has demonstrated a seemingly timeless/endless endearment (not to mention it has appeared in numerous A-list productions). Also, Holmes is a very successful, multi-talented composer, author, and playwright who has worked with industry stalwarts and won industry awards; he certainly isn't some schlock propped up by a PR machine, the man has tangible talent and sustained a career marred by personal tragedy and challenges. In an interview he's mentioned that 'Escape...' by itself would not afford him a life of luxury, but it certainly would sustain him 'quite nicely'; not a bad legacy I say.

If I found out Buck played on that song my only response would be "why?"

Rupert Holmes did an entertaining podcast with Gilbert Gottfired in 2017. Sirrastus in particular would love the Gottfried podcast if he hasn't discovered it already. Deep dives into the personalities and stories of classic TV, movie and broadcasting. Rupert also wrote and produced "Timothy" by the Buoys, which excuses him from "The Pina Colada Song." www.gilbertpodcast.com/rupert-holmes/

Another loss, Gerry Marsden, RIP. Love Ferry Across the Mersey. Now THAT is a well crafted pop song.

I’d dig it, I guess, but hard lobby for an isolated guitar track. total ear worm nightmare.
