I was a fan for years... until I wasn't. And I don't relish the death of anybody. However, my entire GI system has been devastated by COVID, which he said was basically the common flu, and I'm a liiiiiiiiiiitle resentful of people who publicly downplayed how bad this was. Maybe TMI, but I've spent a third of my waking hours for the last two days in the bathroom, ten months after "recovering." As the kids say nowadays, FML.
Is it wrong to hold on to bitterness? I dunno. But I certainly have a lot of it with the chronic pain and whatnot.

Rush Limbaugh is dead.
NYT and WaPo call him a “Provocateur,” WSJ calls him a “Firebrand who rode a wave of polarization.”
None of these characterizations, intentional or not, reflect any understanding of the man, or his thoughts or opinions, or what he was standing for.
Those that knew him will miss him, and those that never got him, or allowed others form their opinion of him, are IMO less rounded in their outlook for it. Let's keep the comportment of the Closing Chord thread, and the BD Forum, in mind today. Whether the country and the world is a better place for Rush's being in it, or now out of it, is up to history. Don't make me moderate this thread. We've done pretty well as a community. Whatever you think about Rush, he's entitled in death to a mention in this thread, as is anyone who has made a difference in our lives.

I try to be mindful of what I say, when, and wear, and for the past few days I haven't done a great job of that (just in general, not just my last post). My apologies for bringing that crap here. I did listen to him faithfully for nearly 15 years before I stopped. I'm just allowing resentment to rule my behavior instead of ruling myself. Sorry again.

Hell just got a new radio show. That shit stain Rush Limbaugh is dead. - VoteBlueSkyBag There's that unity I keep hearing about, no surprise. Rush's boomer conservatism didn't do much for me personally as I continued on my own philosophical and political journey; regardless, his position of prominence, profile, impact, and tenure in his field are noteworthy regardless of political affiliation.

His cultural influence can't be denied, nor discounted. My politics aligned with his for a very long time, and I don't think I veered THAT far away from it, but I can't pretend even if I didn't see eye to eye with him at the end that he wasn't incredibly influential to my philosophical development, no matter my eventual feelings about the man.

I think anyone who has a worldview that wishes it could be heard and influential would regard Rush Limbaugh as undeniably enviable. He struck a chord, for sure.

I think BlueSkyBag downplayed this.On a thread about people who were positive contributors to society Rush didn't make the cut. Rush was known amongst anyone who actually knew him as a person (rather than a political enemy) as a VERY positive contributor to society. Aside from raising millions for Leukemia research, he was known to routinely tip upwards of $5000 on a single meal when dining out. Seems to me he has likely contributed more positively to society than you, me, or anyone else in this forum (in a non-musical sense of course). Not sure many people could make it 3 hours being broadcast to the general public without certain people wishing misfortune on them these days, nonetheless 3 hours every day for 30+ years. Seems like some people need to check the hate in their own hearts before they start lashing out at others.

Tipping well and raising money doesn't make up for his disgusting disgraceful rhetoric all those years.

Tipping well and raising money doesn't make up for his disgusting disgraceful rhetoric all those years. Dazzling and eloquent insight, bravo, a colossal step forward.

Rush deserves a #DFTR . One Concrete Legacy Rush left was The Rush Revere Series. I've read the five volumes. Incredibly accurate. I bet he didn't write it, but I'm looking forward to reading them again with my Grandkids... No need to comment on his form of entertainment :-)

People, stop coming into this thread and stinking up the place. Name calling and bomb throwing don't score any points here. It just diminishes the conversation and diminishes others' impression of the name caller.
We ought to be able to talk to each other in disagreement. Chrissie Hind, for instance, let Rush use "My City Was Gone" as his theme song, specifically after her music publishing company tried to stop him from using it. She did it because her dad was a fan of the program, and she thinks people can disagree and still be civil. She donated all the money she got from Rush to PETA, so it was win-win for everybody.
I don't know at what point that disagreements now require the destruction of the disagreer. I remember a time when contentious issues could be debated on the merits and not devolve into hate-fests. There used to be civility and manners in the public sphere. Well, call me old fashioned. Behave.
Edit: And this isn't a SOBAK thing. You don't have to agree with me on anything. Just be civil about it. I won't be able to read or host this forum should it descend into H8r BS poop slinging. So moderate yourselves.
