One of UFO's most loved and respected releases was their great double live LP, "Strangers in the Night", culled from a couple of gigs recorded in October 78 (incidentally after over a month or so of shows with BOC during the summer)...
Late last year, they thrilled their fans by bringing out a deluxe 8 disc version of "Strangers" that - get this - contains the SIX full gigs they recorded whilst gathering source material for the record. So on top of a remastered version of the original record, they added these shows in full:
Fri 13 Oct 1978: International Amphitheater, Chicago IL Sat 14 Oct 1978: Carthage College Fieldhouse, Kenosha WI Sun 15 Oct 1978: Tomorrow Club, Youngstown OH Mon 16 Oct 1978: Agora, Cleveland OH Tue 17 Oct 1978: Agora Ballroom, Columbus OH Wed 18 Oct 1978: Louisville Gardens, Louisville KY
These were all headline gigs with nice long setlists!! Imagine how overjoyed the die-hard UFO fans were to have such a magnificent offering available featuring their favourite band from a period when they were performing at the top of their game...
And refreshingly, as far as I know, these 6 discs are just the straight gigs, with none of the audio cut and paste jiggery-pokery that might have occurred with the original version...
Not surprisingly, this got me thinking... what a brilliant, wonderful template this undertaking could represent... if only I could think of another band who also have a load of unused fantastic soundboards they'd recorded for their own double live LP who might greatly benefit from a similar approach...
If only...

(and a proper and official release of Live in the West as a bonus CD set.)
(and well, as we talk about it elsewhere, it would be a really great idea to issue the ATL 73 multitrack show at the Fox Theatre... just think about it gals and guys, BÖC in the last days of 1973 !!)

it would be a really great idea to issue the ATL 73 multitrack show at the Fox Theatre... Don't forget the 1972 Florida gigs supporting Jeff Beck that were professionally recorded by Criteria: And the hard to find 1974 dates with Hawkwind were also recorded by Metro Audio:

After all, ETL is mostly a syndicated radio show.

Got my copy of the Strangers deluxe box yesterday. I've owned the vinyl for 40 years and have worn it out perhaps more than any other live album. However, you are never too old to learn new things. As on the Strangers LP, I had always assumed UFO opened those shows with Natural Thing ("Good evening Chicago will you please welcome from London....UFO...then Natural Thing). They opened every night with Hot'n'Ready (which isn't even on Strangers at all) and didn't even play Natural Thing in Chicago.

If the master tapes used for On Your Feet or Live In The West (George?) ever were to emerge, a) I would probably have a small accident in my pants and b) would be the first in the queue to buy them if they were released.

I don't know what's left in our possession. What would be nice is a sanctioned official physical release of George G.'s BOC stuff, Live In The West and the demo sessions. He's done a great job updating and burnishing those recordings.

I don't know what's left in our possession. Well, that means... it's time for an inventory!! Ask Bolle - he turned over some top notch OYF-related soundboards a few years back and has always said they definitely deserve to be heard... this is legacy stuff we're talking about - bands like UFO are now saying "Sod it! We're not getting any younger - let's get it out there and give the fans the chance to hear this stuff..." Maybe, have a chat with someone like Rhino - they know the score with this type of thing... And believe me on this: BOC fans will buy a "deluxe" version of "On your Feet"... #do_not_doubt_it
