Deep Track of the Day #168 - 8/7/21 Elvis Costello – “Alibi” from When I Was Cruel
There are times when I feel it necessary to wax poetic about why I love a particular song, and then there are times when I can't find the words and just say that it's just a darn good song, and that is what is going on here. I love Elvis Costello, and as much as his early work is so incredible, I love this era of his career very much as well.

Deep Track of the Day #168 - 8/7/21 The 88 – “All ‘cause of You” from Over and Over
The 88 are best known for the theme song to the show Community. They deserve far more exposure because their music is well-written, catchy, and fun.

They deserve far more exposure because their music is well-written, catchy, and fun. The 88 also appear in an episode of "How I Met Your Mother". It's the episode where Lily and Marshall want to book them as their wedding band, but they want to check them out first. The band is playing at a high school prom so Lily and Robin try to sneak into the prom to check out the band.

Deep Track of the Day #170 - 8/9/21 The Strawbs – “Lady Fuscia” from Bursting at the Seam
Sometimes I can write a few paragraphs. Other times I just feel like saying this is a neat song that sounds beautiful.

Deep Track of the Day #171 - 8/10/21 Frankie Goes to Hollywood – “Born to Run” from Welcome to the Pleasuredome
It's hard for a band with only two albums to even have a deep track when their best of compilations by default can almost fit both LPs on one disk. However, this cover got very little airplay comparatively at the time, was never released as a single, and is generally drowned out by the dual-hit one-two punch of Relax and Two Tribes. When a radio station plays Frankie, it's generally those two songs. What a shame, because this cover is incredible. You can feel the energy of the band in the recording. I can almost see the sweat they must have worked up. It comes as close to besting the original as anybody could, really.

Deep Track of the Day #172 - 8/11/21 Steppenwolf – “Foggy Mental Breakdown” from Steppenwolf 7
George Biondi's vocals blend very well with John Kay's on this great little track from Steppenwolf 7. The album didn't have any breakout tracks like their earlier work, but it is still quality. Born to Be Wild, Magic Carpet Ride, and The Pusher are all classic and enduring tracks for a reason, but I have a special place in my heart for this album, and I like this song in particular.
Also, in relistening to their catalogue when I was choosing tracks, I saw that their song Rock Me was actually a hit at the time of its release, but it has faded away, and The Pusher never charted but gets airplay to this day. It just goes to show that there are many ways to define what a "hit" is.

I dunno, but I could write a song about what I think of Tipper Gore that I'm very sure she wouldn't like
