There's a bit of a difference, I think, between being 'between tours' or being 'on hiatus.' The Stones have always been omni-present. Zenman, my thread was not focused on "years active" (the Stones are by far the oldest band in activity 1962-now) but on "year-per-year live performances". The Stones have been off the road during 1968, 1974, 1977, and for many years in their late history I get that; I just think that being off the road between "World Domination" tours to 50K punters at a time allows for a level of continuity that far exceeds playing small scale tours of BBQs, Sea World and the like. Your points are valid, but I think the concept of "hiatus" is a moving target, not fixed.

The whole thing is a terminological can of worms... eg: how are we defining "touring"? When does a "hiatus" become an acceptable "break" and when does it become unacceptable...? Are we allowing band name changes? If so, what are the allowable parameters..? How many members have to remain constant...? and so on and so forth... And by examining, evaluating and quantifying all this to the nth degree, what was actually a thought-provoking and innocently-phrased trivia question has been pummelled and logicked into the ground... so apologies to Alessandro...

Unhalfbricking and Liege And Lief are undisputed masterpieces. if you listen to Autopsy and Sandy's voice doesn't make you cry, then you haven't got a heart. plain and simple. While Simon Nicol is cordial but a bit distant, Dave Pegg really is a nice and funny chap. Got my Cropredy 30th anniversary box set signed. Fairport, BOC and the Stranglers have this in common, aside for the different musical style: their fans are really dedicated HAHA Pegg. When I saw Fairport in the 90's at The Bottom Line in Manhattan Pegg was obviously pissed at club owner Allan Pepper and he starts yelling out "Allan Pepper is a bastard" and the girls that worked there yelled back "No you are".Kinda funny but my guess is that Fairport weren't offered an open bar as Pegg had expected.

Lots of great members but I loved Dave Swarbrick-great player and loved his voice.Like Lanier always had a cig dangling from his lips and similar to Lanier it ended up killing him-he lost a lung while Lanier developed COPD.

I thought we were just having a discussion. Sorry if presenting a different opinion is interpreted as "pummelling," that was certainly not my intent.

Sorry if presenting a different opinion is interpreted as "pummelling," that was certainly not my intent. You misunderstand me - I wasn't referring to - or criticizing - anyone other than myself and my own predeliction to over-analyse innocent questions (so, in effect, I was referring to my own "pummelling"), and thereby annoying people, something for which I'm frequently admonished on such platforms as FB... obviously, I don't mean to annoy people, but I always seem to manage it (case in point, I might just have annoyed Randy above - if so, sorry for that!), so I was just apologising to Alessandro in advance for what might be seen to be my needless nitpicking/finding fault with his exact wording, and thus maybe missing out on the main point he was trying to make... but, despite my pre-emptive apology, I still think he's wrong about BOC in this particular case...

Sounds like something a Duck would say.

Correct. The Beach Boys have performed more gigs than any other rock and roll group. BOC is second. Now, I’m not saying this is the answer to the trivia question, I’m just stating a different trivia fact, because I want to.

No problem. I'll still happily buy you a pint the next time our paths cross.
