Has this Reaper cover been talked about? I heard it today for the first time. It's dark, but really gets the vibe, especially as it's customarily used in film/tv placements. No happy ending here.
Ben Moody was a founding member of Evanescence.

I sometimes wonders what other bands DFTR covers would be like. This one is what I would imagine one by the Moody Blues. Of course some bands would never make it work. But I would love to hear a Wishbone Ash version.

Ben Moody was a founding member of Evanescence. I like the reharmonization of the main riff. Takes guts to screw with a classic and it doesn’t always pay off, but I kind of like the direction this one took. It’s funny, sometimes a cover can be so damn faithful that it seems pointless to have done it in the first place, and sometimes the cover can be so drastic in its reinterpretation that it disgraces the intent of the original. A good cover is a fine balancing act IMO and I am in awe of anybody who does it well. Dream Theater has a bootleg I listened to which is full album cover of Deep Purple’s Made in Japan, and while it’s technically impressive, it’s also pointless to me. Meanwhile they did a cover of Gangland by Iron Maiden that reimagined it in a sort of swing vibe with no distortion and it was oddly satisfying. I think the greater you go out on a limb, the more impressive it is if you pull it off.

Starts out like The Stand, but these people are saved by more cowbell. Was the solution to their fever. This one was very good though. Unique.

Ben Moody was a founding member of Evanescence. Agree...definitely darker version but very well done. Puts me in a totally different mood than Buck's version (this version is sadder, more mournful, hopeless even). Buck's version never struck me that way...it's always been a hopeful song about a solemn subject in my opine. This is certainly good thouh and I thought Evanescence rocked when they first came out. I like this but Buck's version is the "gold standard" that I prefer!

OK, this guy does a pretty good play with he has to work with, but for on-stage performances I can't picture Buck trading in his cheeseburger just yet.
