Seems this year it's worse than ever. I always thought I would get worse just not this soon. Anybody got a proven treatment? I'm looking at those codes gummies that are being floated as a good one? .. sigh

Tinnitus and hearing loss suck, that's for sure.
I've given up on live hard rock shows. Acoustic folk is about it these days.

Those closed headphones I used constantly in the 70's and 80's destroyed my hearing.

If it weren’t for tinnitus, I wouldn’t hear anything in my right ear.

I have the opposite problem even though I've been around a fair amount of loud "stuff" over the years. I've had to remove any "ticking" analog clocks anywhere near where I try to take a nap or sleep. The clicking drives me nuts. One room over with the door closed usually works.
Last time I had a hearing test, maybe 20 years ago, I was in the soundproof booth, door closed. I could hear one of the techs outside talking about some pilot one was dating. When I asked her something about it on the way out and that I could hear her through the booth, THEN I HEARD DEAD SILENCE.
Last BOC concert I went to I forgot my earplugs. Couldn't hear any vocals - eardrums were probably jammed in as far as they could go from the bass. Had to listen to the concert with my fingers crammed into my ears. Bummer.
So there are disadvantages.

Tinnitus is part of life for me in my old age. Loud noise sets it off too. My stage In Ear Monitors are ear plugs as well as monitors. I don't think I have hearing "loss" so much as what I'm hearing has to compete with the ringing in my ears for clarity.
As for seeing live music, I always have ear plugs with me. It's better to have them and use them or not, than to want them and not have them. Most acts I watched on the Rock Legends Cruise I wore ear plugs doing it. Typical live sound mixers mix too loud for me, and the PA systems sound too harsh.
When I sleep, I generally have some white noise/waterfall sound loop playing in the room to mask the tinnitus.
All that said, I still enjoy music and can make critical sound decisions, just not at low volumes anymore.

I don’t feel so bad now. I’ve had people say try white noise. Good post here..Thx

Mine started on February 9, 3 years ago. I was watching TV and my ears started ringing, and haven’t stopped, since. I'm sure it’s from a lifetime of loud music, loud artillery and gunfire, live music in bars with my brothers band, and 150 BÖC shows. For two years, it was just a high pitched ring, and I controlled it by getting my mind off of it, listening to low volume music, one on one conversation, reading, naps, anything except sitting, doing nothing and thinking about it. About a year ago, it got worse. Now it’s like a swarm of cicada’s. It’s worst whenever I eat or drink, especially salty or sugary stuff. I also have hearing loss in my right ear, which makes me even more introverted and I get social anxiety. Dinner parties are hell, for me, and indoor crowds are just unacceptable, unless I’m drinking, pop a zannie, or if Buck is performing. Sure wish I’d used ear protection. But I am in pretty good shape, otherwise, so, Life is good!

First of all, I went out and bought two packs of ear plugs with strings tonight. All this discussion has motivated me to be a little more careful, not just at concerts, but with chain saws, leaf blowers, and other junk I have that puts out lots of noise. Even with my over sensitive hearing I've been getting some intermittent ringing in one ear lately. Seems to follow what's going on with a sinus on the same side. All of this a wake up call? ---------------- There is white noise and then there is white noise. For those of you interested in trying white noise you might want to look at the following while ignoring the calculus: Wikipedia-White Noise TreatmentThat paragraph contains the links to things that MIGHT be of interest. I can't comment on the accuracy or safety of any of the suggestions.

A lot of hearing loss is age related. I remember seeing cartoons as a kid where the old geezer had a hand held ear horn to help him make out what people were saying. He was bent over and didn't walk too good either. How old was that depicted geezer?
