I’ve been a fan of BOC since some friends convinced me to go to a concert of theirs in Lansing, MI around 1978. This show had such a big impact and left such an impression on me that I still remember it all these years later. I’ve seen the band at least 5 more times since then. There are so many aspects about BOC that really appeal to me, the history, mythology, the mysterious lyrics, and of course the songs. If I had to pinpoint the one major aspect, within the songs, that keeps me listening I would have to say it’s Buck’s guitar playing. Buck has been one of my top 5 favorite guitarists for the last 45 years. His style, phrasing, choice of notes, sense of melody, etc. is a combination that I find so satisfying. Buck, if there is a chance you are reading this, can you answer some questions if you have the time?
1. My opinion is that your guitar playing has been fantastic throughout all the albums including your solo album. Do you personally feel that you have advanced in your knowledge/technique/creativity in your guitar playing throughout the years since the first BOC album?
2. If “yes” to the above question, what areas do you feel that your playing has advanced?
3. Do you still try to learn new techniques to incorporate into your playing?
4. And now, a sci fi scenario: If young Buck from 1973 were to hop into a DeLorean Time Machine and travelled through time to 2022 and saw and heard himself playing as an older Buck, what would 1973 Buck’s opinion be about the guitar playing of 2022 Buck?
There are a million questions that I would like to ask but these 4 will do. I’m just curious about the answers. Keep playing and give us more great music. Thanks
