For you Spotify folks, this playlist of American rock classics. The link they sent me, puts "Burnin' For You" at the top of the list.

Buck, I noticed John Mellencamp on the link you posted. It reminded me that I listened to a Marc Maron interview with him a few weeks ago. John Mellencamp mentioned that he toured with Blue Öyster Cult back in the day as well as other classic rock bands like Nazareth and a few others I can’t recall. Overall he didn’t feel the experience was positive but it sounded like it was more because his style of music didn’t line up with the bands he was touring with as opposed to any personality problems. Do you recall any of those shows?

The abuse they got from the audience at Liverpool Empire was hilarious. Actually I thought they were OK. I've seen worse bands supporting BOC Magnum for instance.

I enjoyed touring with "Johnny Cougar" in Europe. He wasn't friendly himself, but his band was. It was obvious he was going places, even if our audience didn't get it. He was good.

It's nice to see some John Prine on that list. Some of my favorite episodes of Austin City Limits are the ones in which he played.

"Burnin' For You" was the song that got me into BOC (Sept., 1981, freshman year of high school). I had never heard anything by BOC before, including Reaper, though I got a late start in music (pretty much around 1979). I remember exactly where I was when I heard it and the two things that grabbed my attention and wouldn't let go: Buck's guitar solo (which to this day remains my go-to for what it means for a solo to fit the song; it's *perfect*) and Albert's drumming, particularly the gallopy part after "I've seen suns that were freezing and lives that were through".

Saw John Prine with Steve Goodman in Anchorage, AK. I went with a Co-worker who was a super fan. Kinda liked Steve Goodman more that night.

Prine is an acquired taste Id say for sure. He had a broad following.
For me, In some moods/days its the last thing Im reaching for. Other moods/days its magic. His love of music feels infectious for me when he plays his songs.

"He wasn't friendly himself" tracks for me. My wife saw him live in the 80s and said he was low energy and acted like he wanted to be anywhere but performing. She said his violin player was AMAZING, however.

That said, I Need a Lover is a banger of a song. I don't much like a lot of his work, but good music is good music.
