What are some “must have” pedals for electric rock guitar?

if the fx are built into the amp maybe something you could change channels with, clean, crunch etc. or a compression pedal.

I was unaware that you could do that with an amp.

Only certain amps have built in effects....most don't. I own a few amps...all Fender; the Hot Rod DeVille has two channels, one being overdrive....the second one is a Custom Deluxe Reverb, two channels no overdrive...third amp is a Pro Junior, single channel, no over drive.

overdrive/boost and delay. Even if the amp had overdrive, s boost is nice for solos.

A few months ago I bought a Boss SY-300. Love it but wish I had time to learn how to program it.
