One of the hardest things about making a record is getting it to sound good on crappy playback systems. Compromises are made to do that. To be honest, my sound system is…well put it like this.. I appreciate just hearing you guys sing. Can’t be picky Then again I can put on my videos I’ve recorded recently and watch away .. Like being at the show again. With all the ‘now ‘ band members.. The Regime!!!

Those lyric sites are not authoritative. It's "tenderness." A laser of tenderness. : ) 😂😂😂😎

Well I guess my ears aren't that shot after all - I got it half right at least, although I never came up with laser and tenderness together. Thanks for the definitive answer! I think you're right about the lyrics databases - they probably just copy each other. It's interesting we (at least me) can hear whatever we either want to hear or expect to hear in a song verse. Sometimes that can be advantageous I guess. I played that section of Dancin' about 10 times last night, each time thinking to myself ahead of time one of the, now both wrong, combination of words. Each and every time I swear I heard you sing exactly the words I had just thought about. I know this was a trivial detail that I brought up, but unfortunately sometimes I'm like a dog with a bone and can't let it go. Joe, Get me your full name and address via private message on this site and I’ll ship you a copy of the lyrics book for you . I’ll then send over the tracking number for you to track. . Shipping a couple copies out in the next day or two before I fly out for the Saturday (28th) BÖC show in Idaho… Hope you enjoy the ‘laser of tenderness’ lyrics😂🎸 book. Take care Cheryl PM done. Have fun in Idaho. Yea, "laser of tenderness". Sounded strange, BUT YOU NEVER KNOW. These ARE BÖC lyrics we're talking about after all....

Unreal archives Bolle and Melne collected. They both deserve our undying gratitude. Yes they certainly do. I’ve been working on scanning a few binders of archives. Lots of interesting facts within… Still…more to go. Enjoying it immensely I must say.

It's curve, and beneath, and Lord, and passing.

It's curve, and beneath, and Lord, and passing. Not sure what brought this up again - crazed birds attacking somewhere?? But I'll bite: Are you REALLY sure about the "beneath" and "passing" in ALL verses, especially the last use of each, in for example, both the Club Ninja and The Red and the Black versions?? To me the words within/beneath and washing/passing are basically interchangeable anyway, as if either version would really change the meaning of the song. Great song no matter what people hear. Cheryl, did you stir this one up again from your material to get "Perfect Lyrics" ?

I'm quoting from memory now, I might as artistic license riff on the original text in a live context. I didn't bother to reference the studio recording.

Studio: "It's said the west is nice this time of year", Live: "They say the west is nice this time of year".... Yes, you're right. I think every live performance I've watched is "They say.." To me "They say .." makes more sense anyway. Even in casual conversations with people I've heard "They say .." or "They said ..." but I can't remember anybody telling me something "It's said ...". I'm glad Buck formally brought up his use of the whole artistic license concept. "Officially" allows some slight variations from show to show - might want to make a minor tweak for a particular audience or something. Heck, other bands do that too - I just never thought about it. One can easily get wrapped up in trying to find the "100% every single solitary word, every tense, official gospel lyrics that is embodied only in the studio version" when in reality there may not be any version that is "absolute". I worked in a technical environment where a single word difference could cost a project $100K or that could make something smoke instead of function. Hard to shift from over 35 years of that environment over to an "artistic" way of thinking.

My friend Tracey is a huge fan of the band The Cult, and she has said that Ian Asturbury frequently alters the lyrics to their songs live. I kind of dig the idea of ongoing artistic reinterpretation. You never know when you need to change the lyrics for the times. Each man with the money in his pocket Could go out and almost gas up a rented Ford

I don't know what possessed me to say, "It's said" on the studio recording. It sounds too stuffy and pedantic to me now. But hey, it was 50 years ago..
