Eric sent me a link to this video on YouTube, it sounds and looks really good. I don't know who did it. It's BOC at the New Haven CT club "Toad's Place." Maybe you hardcore folk know about this, but I hadn't been hip to it.
I've linked here what I've never seen before, a faithful performance by Eric, Allen, me and Ron Riddle and Jon Rogers, of the Imaginos version of "Astronomy." Other than my vocal performance, none of us played on that recording. Even I'm playing parts recorded by others. Yet we're playing our hearts out trying to put across the Imaginos version.
The show is really good as I listen to it, and demonstrates to me that every iteration of BOC has had its virtues.
Two other Imaginos tunes on this show too. (Just watching this as I type. Makes me wonder if the date of this vid is accurate. Could be, I suppose. I'm musing if BOC would have still been trying to promote Imaginos as BOC in 1989.) Albert is both the co-father and the heir to Imaginos. Other than the songs BOC recorded along the way, the band was not invested or otherwise involved in the soft doctrine of Imaginos.

Amazing. I always liked Imaginos’ Astronomy and figured that you were on guitar as well.

The date is certainly accurate, the Imaginos tour in Europe was 1989 and according to Ralph's, BÖC played Imaginos material till the end of the year.

The video/audio is an incredible capture of an era.
In digging into it (mostly YouTube comments), the local radio station, WPLR, hosted simulcast concerts.. this being one of them. This was the 80's version of "live streaming", right to your over-the-air TV antenna!
Major hats off to whoever was doing the mix back then, the sound is great!
There are many many awesome things about this show and this era and I could make a long list about this performance.. but I'd bore you..
So, only first impressions-- the percussion, the drummer, Ron Riddle, is out front and driving the rhythm. Took a bit of digging to find out who Ron was only to find out then that Eric introduces him during the show, ha. The energy of the in-fills and the hammering of the toms that he does and the impact of his playing style put the needle a little further into the "hard rock" realm.
Without watching any of it, just listen and compare it to other drummers on either end of this era and, to me, the vibe and the energy driving the songs is more serious and upbeat in this show.

Fantastic! Pretty sure the date is right. Saw the band three times on the UK leg of the tour later that year, the "alternative" version of Astronomy was a high point of the set.

Eric sounds so amazing in this film. I saw this show a few months later at The Center Stage in Atlanta in May. Approx same setlist.

Ron Riddle was always fun to watch. He had that rock n roll drummer vibe and he played great in his time with the band.
I was at that Toads show and several other Toads Place shows as well. Cool place.
BOC, Rolling Stones, Talking Heads, The Doors with Jim Morrison arrested there during a show, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2…..and on. Cool history there.
I remember being in the backstage room after a show at some point with BOC….goofing with crazy stuff including autographs all over the wall…and thinking “if these walls could talk….”

I was at the Allentown, Pa show for this tour in October’89. It was my first BÖC concert. I vividly remember you guys playing I Am The One You Warned Me Of. According to the giglopedia that was it for Imaginos though I would’ve sworn you played the Imaginos version of Astronomy.

I would’ve sworn you played the Imaginos version of Astronomy. Well, Astronomy was played that night, and as BOC were still playing "I am the one" at that point, the chances are pretty good that it was the Imaginos version you heard... but the trouble is, I can't label it as such unless I'm told definitely that it was that version - otherwise, it's just an assumption... if you're saying you deffo remember it being sung by Buck, I'll change the listing to reflect that...

I saw them play the imaginos version at the rocket club in Tampa around this time. Cannot remember if they played anything else from that album.

Was that shown at Crocodile Rock or? I Was a senior in high school at that time and didn't know what I was missing until many years later!

Late 80’s we’re great BÖC, I loved the Westport Playhouse shows, and caught several others, in July of 1989.

Unfortunately I can’t swear to it…the reason I distinctly remember I Am The One is because I love that guitar solo and loved seeing it live. (Wish the kept that song in the rotation.)
