linkIt's a u-matic tape, so is probably of broadcast quality: I'm just trying to work out what show it could be from... the date is 15 Sep 1981 - I wonder is that the recording date or the broadcast date...? The label sez New York and I know BOC were playing Buffalo that night with Foghat, so they weren't a million miles away - they could have recorded it in the afternoon maybe and made it to the gig afterwards... NB: The 2 songs are B4Y and Joan C... so, surprisingly, NOT Reaper... I first wondered if it could be Merv Griffin, but then I checked, and those 2 songs were B4Y and DFTR, plus that show was earlier (25 July 1981) and would have been with Albert... I understand that the Tomorrow Show with Charles Grodin was broadcast in October '81, so maybe this tape was recorded for that...? Or... could this tape be from another different TV show that I currently don't know about...? Either way, this tape might be a useful acquisition by Mr S to help secure a part of BOC's recorded legacy for posterity... because, let's be honest, BOC didn't do a lot of TV... although they should have done... :-(

maybe it's just the 2 videos for those tracks ? You might be right, of course, but it doesn't feel like that - the fact that they put the date on there makes me think the two songs were recorded on that date, either as part of a TV show or for later inclusion in one... for the average fan, this tape mightn't be much use as you'd need a uMatic player to play it back on - or, more likely, to dub off a copy in a format that you can play back...

My first thought on this was Charles Grodin as well or maybe Rick Dees but I think his show was later in the 80s. I know my mind is a little fuzzy now but I remember around this time 60 minutes did a segment on decibel levels at concerts. Boc was featured and they showed a couple of brief clips of them on stage. I wonder if this could be the CBS unedited footage?

Pretty sure Grodin was ‘81 and Rick Dees was ‘91.

I'm guessing it's the two videos we did in LA for MTV and other uses. MTV wouldn't play "Joan C," too gross. Laughable considering what followed on music TV.
