I like the left turn into the jazzy section, and really dig the last part of the song where Buck is soloing around the vocal chorus thing.

Albert had the story line and the musical broad strokes. The band pitched in at that point.

Black Blade --> Monsters is a helluva 1-2 punch.

I like the left turn into the jazzy section That's an understatement... that "left turn" was into what Moorcock would have described as a different plane... I vividly recall how my jaw dropped when I first heard this track...

I think we all just grinned when that album came out and we heard the jazz part break out the first time.
Kinda like the first time I heard Train True start up. Unexpected.Grinning boy.😁

The entire first BOC album just came out of left field, it has a really strange vibe to it like it was recorded on a foggy night.

My first true exposure to boc was on your feet. When I bought the first record I couldn't believe how different it sounded from anything else I had ever heard. Almost like everything was recorded at the same level in a room full of mattresses. It definitely added to the Mystique of the band and the layering of guitars on before the kiss still give me goosebumps.

it has a really strange vibe to it like it was recorded on a foggy night. It almost sounds as if it was recorded in an 8-track jingle studio above a spice warehouse... :-)

Exactly it was to my ears like listening to 40 minutes of any progressive radio station between '68-'71.

I agree about Debbie Denise... that was definitely "weird"... Never thought there was anything weird about it but it was more mainstream than any previous BOC tune.In fact I thought it was going to be even bigger as a follow up to DFTR.I kept calling it "my summer song" I really thought this album was going to go all Fleetwood Mac with it's "hits".

As for Monsters....well BOC doing a song called Monsters was no surprise the arrangement was and it was weird while flowing beautifully amongst the "weirdness" the nananana's the exclamation point on all of it the riff which has always reminded me of Everyone's A Winner by Hot Chocolate was such a cool idea it's really at all junctures as Jerry Mathers would say "a really neat tune Wally".

My impression of Pasha is that she was a baaaad girl..
Joe awoke from his stupor and raised a gun because bad girl.. or am I interpreting it wrong?
Seems to be a theme in Cultosaurus (the skullduggery part). Johnny also lost his Suzy in the Marshall plan.. Joe and Pasha didn't do it.. the band took Suzy on that one.
Great album overall. It's in my overall top 2.
