20 years ago today...saw BOC there in 1999....went back again the following year to find out the show was cancelled. RIP. The sad part of it all...."Rhode Island law grants immunity from criminal prosecution to the state fire marshal for actions and omissions made in the “good faith” performance of his duties. Larocque retired in 2006 with a disability pension." The club was visited by the fire marshal, and granted expanded capacity without adding sprinklers, and more exits....the fire had all the makings of being averted, and missed it at every step.

I have a close friend who lost his younger brother in this fire. The family still struggles with it.

I remember walking into The Station to play and thinking to myself "This place is a fire trap." The only other way out was right behind the stage and not accessible to the crowd. It was a long way from the showroom to the front door. There might have been another door which was kept locked.
20 years is a long time, but it seems longer. The Station Fire charity concert is where I first got to know John Cafferty and Beaver Brown.

I watched the documentary tonight. I remember at the time it happened it seemed to be impossible. Now I'm thinking back to all of the clubs I've been to for live music where the only obvious door was the front one. So horrific.

I worked a John Cafferty at the Blue Ocean a couple months ago....funny enough, as a life long New Englander, and the fact that he plays the area often, I never saw him until recently.
