The T-shirt is of the same design, but I can't make out the lettering under the BOC. Well, the t-shirt is the only thing I can be certain of - it's from the 14/15 Feb 1979 shows at Alexander's, Browns Mills NJ: View AttachmentI think you might well be right about it being from 1980 - the date thing (other than the year) is too much of a coincidence... if it was that 1980 Austin show, that's interesting. I currently have some conflicting info about that gig. According to Sam Judd, that was the first show in that timeframe that Allen didn't make and was replaced by Steve Schenck. Sam reckoned there were five such shows. However, Mr S emailed to tell me that was only partially correct but that Allen did play the Austin show, and not him. Obviously, I've taken note of this, but I do tend to lean towards favouring Sam's word because he was always spot on with this stuff - even at times when I thought he must be wrong, only to find proof later on that he was right after all... So - onto Gerard's point about it being Albert rather than Allen... if Sam's right, then it couldn't have been Allen anyway... I have to say, it's tough to be sure with the bottom half of the face missing - depending how I squint, I can make a case for either... I did think that the clothing didn't seem to be Albert's style for gig wear - he's often more for the T-shirt and shorts etc thing, but then again, I have seen photos of him during ME262 with long sleeves and " proper" trousers on, so I dunno... I remember they did a lot of raising their arms in the air during the 5 guitars bit, so that might fit in with the photo... Regarding why Buck adopted the casual look for that particular show, maybe it was like that gig that Marty once saw where the truck carrying their stage gear didn't make it to the show, and everyone went on in jeans and t-shirts...? Then again, if it was a really hot July evening, maybe Buck took one look at his shirt and waistcoat on the hangar in the dressing room, and thought "f**k that, where's me shorts..?"... :) Thanks for the T-shirt pic. Now when I look at the original pic I can tell it's Alexander. Eyes can play tricks on you if you make assumptions. The original photo you posted had the filename: "850730 - Austin - FB - Mark Bowman.jpg". So that kind of planted Austin in my mind, plus the name of the photographer who as of 2014 lived in Austin but may have been in Houston in the 70's. Doesn't matter, he travels all over the place, but a LOT of his pics are from the Austin and Houston area. So on the shirt I saw a big A (assuming Austin) and that lead me to believe the " lexa" part of Alexander to be " Texa". FYI: Looks like they played 8 shows in Texas in 1979. Since the one pic I found of him in the same outfit was from Buck's OWN "Buck Shot" page, maybe he has some notes on that pic or at least some memory of it.

Since BÖC played in Austin on 073080, and since the file name was 850730 Austin, and since I KNOW it wasn’t 1985, I’ll change my guess to 1980.
p.s. that show where BÖC played in jeans and T Shirts was one of the best shows, evah! January 7, 1978.

The detective work to determine the provenance of these vintage shorts is truly impressive.

OK, there's got to be a story behind this... but does Buck remember what it was...? View Attachment(The pic was said to be from a 30 July 1985 gig in Austin, but I don't have such a gig listed so I dunno...). BTW: I did wonder if it might have been from a soundcheck, but it does look like a gig photo... “Nutters” Is what we called those kind of shorts back in the day!

Great job dissecting that whole issue....however, what's the story on the Vulcan guitar? Inquiring minds want to know.

The main Vulcan was left at SeaFactor in NYC, where it was stored, we wound up owing them money for tour expenses, don't know what happened to it. A second one was stolen at JFK when the band returned from a Puerto Rican date with Michael Bolton. One of them was briefly for sale some years ago, but the seller got scared when people started investigating possible theft.

Somehow I just can’t get my head around you guys in a gig with Michael Bolton. Curious how that evolved?

Don't remember the particulars, other than Bolton was the headliner and we were supporting him, at a ball park in San Juan. The only time I've been to Puerto Rico, we had a good time, had a travel day before. On the flight back, we had gear stolen from the airport, either JFK or San Juan, probably JFK. Vulcan, and a Mesa Boogie Mk IIC head.

We’ve been there several times and are actually looking at buying a small place there for retirement.

My Mom is from Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico, so we've been there many times. My Mom has an apartment on Luquillo Beach, that we all can use if we go there.
