I don't remember any kibosh about a potential movie from SNL folks.

I'm over the whole cowbell thing. By far it was one of the very best SNL skits, and while I think the band and most of us embraced it at the beginning, it did become a distraction at shows where people were yelling it between every song.

Maybe they asked BÖC's producer Bruce Dickinson...

Next there will be talk of a Live Action Lucky Charms movie. Most films now are just junk food for the brain.

So if it's good for the BOC product/band...its good by me...however...strictly from the fan of BOC's music side of things the cowbell excitement was awesome in it's time...and wickedly funny...then.
Years later...Part of me thinks back at Alice Cooper's 70's era awesome music and super stellar band...and thinks it is a bummer some people think of snakes and guillotines when ACG comes up. I hate that. What a great musical unit they were.
BOC is sooo much more and I'm still pissed SNL never had them on to play DFTR at some point. It was a layup for them as popular as the skit was. I'm not sure on a Cowbell based movie TBH.

I don't remember any kibosh about a potential movie from SNL folks. Well, there goes my idea for the Christmas sequel… “A More Cowbell Christmas”

I wonder if the SNL skit was the FIRST use of the phrase "more cowbell"? Yea, bands before that used cowbells, but the phrase itself is what I'm curious about. It's even made it into several dictionaries.
The phrase has become common place. Even used in politics. In case you haven't see one famous (love it or hate it) use:

As far as I know, "more cowbell" was minted with the SNL sketch. Somehow, the sketch NEEDED BOC and the Reaper to make the phrase what it has become since. I don't think the gag would have worked with any other cowbell song, such as "Mississippi Queen," or "Time Has Come Today." I also think it wouldn't have taken off without Christopher Walken. He totally sold the whole concept. Even the clowning by Ferrell and the crew as BOC is superfluous to Walken's part and performance. The funny thing was how the cast couldn't help laughing themselves with the whole premise.
I NEVER gave the cowbell in DFTR a thought until the sketch. We'd never played it live until the sketch took off. Eric insists on pantomiming the cowbell when I start Reaper live, to my enduring mild annoyance. Like no one would think of the sketch if he didn't remind people. He's like the person saying "more cowbell" in the comments whenever BOC is mentioned anywhere online.
Is the sketch funny because it's BOC? I guess. Ferrell IS making fun of BOC, but somehow it doesn't really dis the band. If Ferrell and Walken are cursed by the sketch, too bad, 'cause BOC is cursed too. I've sensed that Will Ferrell has avoided direct contact with BOC for whatever reason.
That "More Cowbell" is firmly in the cultural lexicon now, and is eternally associated with Blue Oyster Cult, is something I've become comfortable with, and I suppose I'm grateful for it. Feels weird, 'cause we had nothing to do with it, other than recording the song in the first place.

I can only think it must seem as death by a thousand cuts. As a serious fan of BÖC I dread talking to anyone about the band anymore because I know eventually the damn cowbell thing will be mentioned... like it all the band is about. It's a shame
