Your point is taken, soonerbillz. I'm just appealing to our better civilized nature.

Buck said "We're better than this" I'm not so sure about that. My lesson in life is that we as a species are willing and capable of horrific actions. Then too we are capable of great and noble abilities. It's our curse for being at once sentient beings but sapient as well. We haven't really learned anything since the dawn of mankind. Probably won't change until we cease to exist as a species. "billz" you are an astute observer of the human condition...and one cannot deny the long period trend. But having said that...I agree with Buck's comment that "we are better than that". I say that because over history we have always had rise up great men (and women) who sacrifice much for others. These are often all that stand between dystopia and gentle society. Sadly, I have to agree with your long term prognosis...given our history and the current trends. But as long as there are some good and kind folks amongst us I agree we are (or should be), better that that. One of the biggest lies ever conjured up was that one man doesn't make a difference. I've been fortunate to have great examples and mentors in my life that have encouraged me. As long as there is one good man left...I'll keep the faith.

Read a little about that case. Some copyright troll outfit bought "Let's Get It On" co-composer Ed Townsend's interest in the song from his descendants. They then brought the suit against Sheeran, perhaps encouraged by the "Blurred Lines" outcome. I'd never heard Sheeran's song, but when I listened, I heard a homage perhaps, a nod maybe, but by no means a copy or ripoff of the Gaye song. It was plainly Ed's song, not Marvin's. This money grabbing is depressing and unbecoming to our species. We're better than this! Looks like the jury did the right thing: "A jury ruled Thursday that English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran was not liable in a case in which he was accused of copying music chords from Marvin Gaye's classic "Let's Get It On" in his 2014 hit song "Thinking Out Loud." Probably won't change until we cease to exist as a species. You take an individual person, and they can be great, noble, loyal, honorable, honest, kind, generous, and all things to aspire to. And there really are many of those individuals out there who are just the pinnacle of what we should strive to be. However, you take all human beings in the aggregate, and the average person made from that aggregation is an asshole. There are great people out there, many of them even, but not enough, in my experience.
