A lot of the Agents arrangements were done on the fly, with overdubs that colored the texture, but needent be duplicated live. We could always just play the record and lip sync, like a lot of the current acts do.

If you want to hear a band duplicate studio sounds, go see Boston. They sound just like the record. Not saying that's not an achievement, but if I have a record already, I hope to hear something different. I recently saw Los Lobos play locally in MD. They played acoustic guitars all night, with drums and electric bass, and they were great. They didn't sound like the records. I am eternally grateful that each time BOC plays that there are cool and different nuances and that Buck tends to get very creative.. Best thing since peanut butter and jelly !! The guys never get old!!!!! IMHO!!

Most of Agents was recorded with a MusicMan 4x10 combo I believe Joe Bouchard still has. The Record Plant also had a tweed Fender Twin amp that sounded great. Both those records were recorded and mixed by Shelly Yakus, which may have helped getting the guitar sounds you so enjoy. Thanks for the info. It really is amazing how many of my favorite guitar tones were recorded using Fender Twins and similar amps. Santana used a Twin for Abraxas, even though he is known for using Boogies and Dumbles, both of which may not of even been on the market in 1970. Also early Dire Straits, again a Twin. Great amps, wish I could lift one, and play in a venue large enough to turn it up!

The tweed Fender Twin was not the same amp as the blackface and later ones, it was less powerful and less heavy.
