As I'm a huge fan of 50's vocal group harmony-the Flamingos were one of the greats and member Tommy Hunt in the early 60's went out on his own and had a huge hit with a beautiful gospelly tune called Human. Here's the 75 yr old(at least) still bringing it in 2011

I just discovered a contemporary rock band called Rival Sons. They've been around since 2009 but I didn't know it. Great. Like some '70's band you somehow missed. I haven't heard a bad cut yet.

If you haven't gotten into them already, I'd recommend listening to The Four Freshmen. Their harmonies are heavenly-- they were Brian Wilson's favorite band as a teenager and you can totally hear how they influenced the Beach Boys.

Just remembered the Beach Boys on their live album did a wonderful version of Graduation Day.

BTW The original Four Freshmen group is long gone-check out their Wiki page for their history. Yeah, they're the only band I can think of that has had various incarnations with different members after the original ones either left or passed away. I'm not sure what they sound like these days.

That was pretty cool. There seems to have been a revival of the 70s classic rock sound in the 2000s. Off the top of my head I remember The White Stripes, The Darkness, and Wolfmother being a part of that movement. Nice to see the sound is being kept alive by a new generation; here's a good track from Wolfmother's debut album:

The retro band I really liked was Jellyfish-Richie played one of their cuts and I really dug it.Have to say it isn't easy for me to get into a lot of new music.

I'd like to introduce you to the Jad & Den Quintet. A French group who does great covers on popular songs. This is Emerson, Lake and Palmer's Trilogy.
