Listening to some new prog by old hands. Singularity by Rain, who consist of the former bassist from UK prog bands IQ, Arena and a former member of Robert Plant's old touring band. It has jazzy elements, hints of King Crimson and Yes but is very modern sounding. This will hold me off until my copy of the Zappa Movie soundtrack arrives. I am waiting for that delivery myself. The Mothers 1970 album from last spring was great, but I need a new fix lol

My copy of the Zappa Original Movie Soundtrack arrived yesterday and I haven't played anything else since. Jazz isn't dead; it just smells funny.

Steven Wilson - The Future Bites Negatives: Almost no guitar on the album, just one rocker. The track £minent Sleaze is awful. Positives: It's Steven Wilson, he doesn't do bad just different and ever-changing. Don't listen to the album if you're expecting a traditional rock/prog album, it is far from traditional. Btw, I couldn't stand this track when it was first released. I now love the track and keep going back to it.

Steven Wilson - The Future Bites Personal Shopper I'm bobbing my head to this. The verses remind me of this indie band The Humble Braggers. Lauren, I don't know if you've heard any other Steven Wilson but as many will attest, this album is absolutely like anything else he has recorded, at least not in recent years. He is very open about his love of Abba and quality pop in general but previous recordings have only dabbled in this sound. A bit like Zappa, he gets bored by sticking to one style and like Zappa it frustrates the hell out of part of his ever expanding fanbase. He can do wrong, almost.

I have a single Porcupine Tree album that I like quite a lot, otherwise I'm unfamiliar with his work.

Once you commit, your whole listening world will revolve around Mr Wilson and His Prog Adventures. Tony can fill you in on the various albums and styles that await.

The Decemberists Live Home Library Vol 1. August 11 2009. It's essentially the Hazards of Love played live. The vinyl versions sounds really good.

Not usually a fan of the gimmick type stuff like one-man bands, but this is pretty cool. First time I heard the studio version of this song I never would have known it was all one dude. Another NYC guy I believe.
