Joe Jackson-Look Sharp. Growing up in a College town we were exposed to some incredible music. I wasn't a big fan of the new early 80s stuff but saw him in a Boston club and they opened up with "Got the Time" and blew the roof off the joint. Bought the album the next day.

Joe Jackson sat behind us at the SWU/BOC show at the Bottom Line in 1979.

I absolutely LOVE Joe Jackson. His early stuff was really kickass. And while his later stuff isn't really for me, I respect the hell out of him for maintaining commercial viability in a changing market at the time.

I've always liked Roger McGuinn's cover of Joni Mitchell's "Dreamland". I really like the guitar riff. Can't describe why, but it does have somewhat of a BOC "sound" to it.

Just spent most of the afternoon listening to the new release by Marillion, "An Hour Before It's Dark". I go hot and cold with Marillion, some albums I like instantly, others which go straight over my head. This one is a definite like! It's a little more aggressive (for Marillion at least) which is a good thing. This is album # 16 in 33 years with singer and songwriter Steve "H" Hogarth and people still ask "Is Fish still in the band?" and he only ever recorded 4 albums over 6 years with them.

Not rock music, but I just thought of this one out of the blue today.
No, it wouldn't make it to my daily rock-music play list, but I remember all the air time and popularity when it first came out in 1968. None of my classmates could figure out what the lyrics meant, but it was one of those songs where the "sound" caught my attention. There was a park in our vicinity named MacArthur Park - meeting place for field trips, birthday parties, and other celebrations - that pretty much all of my friends had visited multiple times. So when we heard the song we thought of the park, when we thought of the park we thought of the song. Apparently pretty much everything described in the song, like the "cake out in the rain", was actually seen by the writer. The song was supposedly inspired by the real life of the author.
Wikipedia (or other sources) can tell you a lot more about this one than I can. The writer, Jimmy Webb, has written a number of hit songs. The song was written for the Association, but they rejected it. Anyway, Richard Harris, best known for classical theater, took it on. I remember reading that even though the song was "MacArthur Park" he would only sing it as "MacArthur's Park".
Anyway, here you go:

Weirdly after having a motorcycle accident & suffering a head injury three weeks ago I have been unable to listen to anything because music is impossible to follow & also I've had an enormous headache. We the headache has gone as of this morning, my cognitive functions have been returning for the last week & now I have an overwhelming urge to listen to Slipknot! Currently enjoying We Are Not Your Kind. Weird!
