One of my FB buddies just turned me on to them-he caught them on the big stage last week at Mountain Jam.I also like their live version of Bad Self Portraits they did with Mavis Staples.

Love the harmonies. Not bowled over by the tunes. But I'm all for the singing. At least they're not going to twerk.

Haha the singing is great-harmonies outstanding. In todays music world IMO this goes as top rated tunes.Sadly the competition just(for me) isn't there anymore.Take 50's,60's70's,80's(OK R&B was on the way down and out, hair bands were arghhh ,creativity-craft was still there,90's started the downfall in many areas.).We'll never see the 50's-70's again.

Harmony singing sounds good to the ear, so why wouldn't people who hadn't been exposed to it not like it? Same with 60's era pop. Some carry on, but the pop tunecraft of that era was so good and competitive, it would be difficult if not impossible to attain that level of excellence in a the vacuum of today's pop. You can argue that some of today's pop is actually good, but I would say the bar is low. Of course, my dad said the same thing about the music of my era compared to the great pop tunes of "The American Songbook."

LOL Of course they all said that-hated the aggressiveness of the "new music" blah blah blah but we are not our parents simply because we can see that the things that made great music from the 20's to 70's(don't want to discount a lot of what I liked in the 80's and 90's but the heyday ended for me some time ago, afterall it is 2015) are no longer fresh, open to creativity amongst different genres(one look at pop charts from the 60's will show the way-folk melded with pop etc etc) innovative technologically.thematically or culturally anymore-they don't exist as something that can be formed in a melting pot like before. It's for the most part all been done already-it's gone thru the different permutations-the formation is complete.

As for doo wop-I find young people really like it but the powers that be won't push it so it remains an enjoyed delicacy that won't probably ever see the kind of mainstream popularity it once had.I notice teenagers on YT on these tunes that really go for it tho-and that's cool.Europe has a pretty big Doo Wop following too-Germany especially. I asked Albert if he ever played with Ben E King and he said they were on gigs together when Albert backed Peter Noone. You know Ben E's got the best closing line ever in the A&E Brill Bldg Biography when he says "If I had to do it over again I'd change nothin' because all of those who got the big houses, yachts, etc when they turn on the radio they have to listen to my music.I beat 'em anyway" I get a little teary eyed at that.Like a great book when the good guys win in the end.

I'm afraid this creativity among genres you talk about has created this hideous new form of country, which is basically over-driven guitars and a fiddle playing horrible pop with IQ-insulting, cliche'd lyrics. In this day of market-led music rather than the culture/art led music from the '60's-'70's, maybe we are at the end when it comes legitimately pushing the boundaries of pop/rock.

Markus-it's really more of a watering down than a true creative melding.I'm no big fan of todays country with some exceptions it like other genres are just to me pale examples of what once was.Country has just crossed over into bland rock IMO.

Listening to British Lion's 2012 eponymous album. Would love to here more from Mr. Harris' solo project. But not at the expense of Bruce Dickinson's recovery
