Seeing that my bill's getting high I decided to cut the TV out but keep my net/phone plan. I went got a small outdoor antenna and hooked up my TV to it. I remember we had 6 channels but when I scanned the channels I hit over 50 channels. I thought WTH ??
I got on the net to research and discovered HDTV! Man, antenna TV took on a whole new meaning and the picture quality was even better. I got 19 good channels out of the scan after eliminating infomercials, home shopping, religions and Spanish channels.
Good channels beside my locals like:
ATV JUSTICE WORLD CREATE METV ESCAPE ION IONLIFE QUBO CW (COUNTRY) GETTV GRIT COZITV
I wished I knew about this years ago.

We cut the cord at least 5 years ago. I was given an Amazon Prime for Christmas and Streaming content is great. I think when we scanned in Houston, we got about 64 channels. There are a few Spanish stations, which are fun to watch. We even have a few different Asian channels.

I may quit Comcast. My cat pissed on/in the set box last night... They give me any crap exchanging it (especially with GOT's this Sunday) and I'm done.

Ditto on the Chromecast/AppleTV/SmartTV streaming thing. Lots of content out there.

I can't say I remember the last time I turned on a TV and just flipped through channels. I mostly download or use Netflix at this point... it's probably prematurely nostalgic of me, but there's something I occasionally miss about channel surfing. Especially running into strange programs on late night public access channels.

I DVR a lot of shows-most are either available on the 'net(I've missed shows that I was able to catch just on their network site) and with all the streaming available you'd probably have no need for reg tv except for sports although you could say watch your local teams games by paying an MLB or NFL fee.I still like having all the channels I have but damn it is fairly expensive-I currently use FIOS for 'net,tv and phone-costs about $235 a month.

I get my TV over the air too. I get the main channels (ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, FOX, and the CW) and all of their subchannels. I like that MeTV, that is awesome with all the old shows on it. The other night I watched the Star Trek tribbles episode. My local PBS station has four subchannels so there is always something to watch. My community has bulk cable through Comcast, but the people at Comcast don't seem to know how to support it. The last time I had an issue, I got transferred back and forth between their residential service department and their business service department with no resolution of the problem. When I gave them the account number for my homeowners association, I got transferred to the business department. Then when I described the problem, I got transferred to the residential department. Then when I told them the account number, I got transferred back to the business department. And on and on it went with no resolution of the problem. So I hooked up my HD antenna to my TV and unplugged the cable. I had been using my HD antenna to watch TV on my computer for several years now, but that computer is an old XP machine that I am retiring, so I don't watch TV on it anymore.

My daughters were debating on getting me AppleTV (One of my daughter has that, the other only needs Netflix) and they ended up buying Prime as I buy a lot of Amazon and get the 2 day free shipping. There are a few original shows on Amazon and more are on the way. We like both "Transparent" and "Mozart In The Jungle". Tons of free movies and over a million songs. My two sweethearts threw in a Roku 3 to sweeten to pie.

I hardly watch TV but I had cable TV for my sis and her son and they pay for that portion. Since my nephew got DUI (for the 3rd time) the money's not coming in anymore so it's out. I spliced the cable onto the rooftop antenna (glad it's still there) and got myself a small antenna so everyone's happy. I do most of my watching on my computer. Movies? It's there. TV shows? It's there too. Plus lots of interesting stuff like Russian dash cam clips, police actions, scientific stuff, odds and ends, etc etc. The cable upgraded the net to MAXX and I got faster speed on the same plan so I ain't complaining.

I would love to get rid of Comcast especially now that you can get HBO as a standalone. My only concern is the amount of data that I would be using, for say Netflix would exceed my limits with my cable Internet. The only other problem I have is that I live 60+ miles outside of Philadelphia which is a little further than the stronger antennas can reach so I don't know how many channels I would actually get. It does look like this is coming too ahead though. I just saw an article that Verizon Fios is now starting to offer smaller packages of channels for less money.
