Yikes - it's an epidemic: Ralph, that Spam can is an eyesore. I don't know how to keep spammers from registering here. Seems like a lot of trouble for advertising something.

Well, that was sort of my intention - I'd used the "report post" mechanism the day before but the posts remained in place, so I went to Defcon 2 in an effort to draw the attention of Melne (or whomever is handling the board admin) that there was currently a spam "flap" on... > I don't know how to keep spammers from registering here.
It's a never-ending battle - some boards make you answer questions prior to registration in an effort to weed out the spammers, but it's hard to come up with questions that can't readily be googled... I think the best policy might be to monitor the first posts by new members to gauge their "intentions"... > Seems like a lot of trouble for advertising something.
I'm no expert, and nor do I have any specialist knowledge in this field, but my understanding is that the spammers earn their money by posting as many links as possible back to whatever product or service they're trying to promote... with forums that use the standard board software packages, it's simply a case of them ploughing their way through a massive list of subscribers, joining each in turn, and then automatically posting to as many sub-forums within each board as possible that contain spam links, and then hoping nobody removes them for a while so that the search engines have time to register their presence... If the links manage to stay online for a time, then those link-backs earn the spammers their money - if the links get removed quickly, they won't - hence my use of the big image to try and indicate it might be a good idea to hit the delete button sooner rather than later to let them know that they're wasting their time in this particular instance...

I've got a TV in my workout area so I usually have YouTube on to play music. The Youtubes randomly jumped in to Buck's channel when I was jogging the other day and ran through the Super8 videos that Daryl put together. Man, that is some great stuff. The best may be this one:

Evidently, I need 10k page views to begin the process of monetizing my Channel and account with youtube. I don't expect to get rich on the future of my recordings, but I'd like at least to be encouraged to do more. I WILL put out new Buck Dharma material on youtube once that threshold has been realized. Any effort to publicize and popularize my channel would be appreciated. Once that threshold is realized, stuff held back and new output will be encouraged! Just went and bookmarked it....will share all I can....and am excited about new stuff, or even Buck versions of old stuff (like the BD Archives were). If enough of us hit it everyday you'll be monetizing in no time. Let's do it BD fans!

Currently: 8.22K subscribers 958,769 total views to "things" on the channel 102K views to the single video The Buck Dharma Band - Astronomy If I'm reading things right, the only category under 10K is the number of subscribers.

Channel no longer exists? What happened? Per Buck a few weeks back it's being investigated....but no one intentionally took it down. If I try to go there it says "channel doesnt exist" but also shows me as "subscribed"....which is odd. Hope it's back up soon.
