It's been awhile since I wrote one of these, but since the first time I saw Mark Farner perform was him opening up for BOC last year, I thought it'd be neat to revisit him.
I was blown away by his performance last year, and was just further amazed by Mark's ability to perform live as well as his solo band. I got to meet him before the show, and although it was pretty short, me and my dad got a really nice picture with him.
At some point during the show when Mark briefly switched over to the keyboards, I saw him throw a pink guitar pick. Me and everyone else in front row thought that it slid through a crack when it flew across the floor, but towards the end of the show, I took a look again and saw that it wasn't the case, so I immediately snatched it. Mark said after the last song that they were made pink to raise breast cancer awareness.
There was also a really fun percussion bit he and his band did together, which was cool to see. I knew my chances of getting another drumstick from Mark were high since he was playing on my side, so when he threw it across the stage into the audience, I managed to catch it, but I ended up getting a fat lip because the drumstick hit my face pretty hard. I've been in the mosh pit before for a Black Sabbath show at Lollapalooza and have seen Motorhead in Detriot and managed to watch the full shows and without getting bruises, but funny enough, I got hit pretty hard at a small local laid back show, which I thought was pretty funny.
Overall, despite getting a swelling lip, I had a really good time last night, and since even the venue owner loved Mark Farner so much, it's highly likely that he'll return for some more solo shows, which I hope to catch in the future.
