On This DayJan 9 Paul King, English rocker (Blue Oyster Cult), born in Dagenham, Essex Hope Paul has a Happy Birthday... I'm a massive fan of Paul's work - it's always been a big thrill for us in the UK that we had an English bloke playing in our favourite band... #JeffreyKagel #BoneJangler #PhilGrande

Steve's beef with Paul was telling Steve that someday there'd be something called the internet and Youtube, and he planned on posting unauthorized video of the band as soon as it was invented.

Anyone know why anyone thinks Paul King was in Blue Oyster Cult? Especially the media? Who is Paul King?

Steve's beef with Paul was telling Steve that someday there'd be something called the internet and Youtube, and he planned on posting unauthorized video of the band as soon as it was invented. Over the years, I've had many a conversation with Paul on this very topic via email and I've explained to him the view from the 'other side of the tracks' - i.e. from a fan's perspective - which is that, most studio releases aside, my own personal best BOC moments have all come from "unauthorised" sources... our appreciation for this material hasn't diminished or devalued BOC in any way because fans buy all the "authorised" stuff anyway - a BOC fan will find their experience enhanced and reinforced by getting hold of - say - tapes of Detroit and Cleveland 73... this makes us love the band even more... Look - if the band had put out this material officially but we fans didn't bother buying it because we already had tapes, then I'd BEGIN to understand the problem from the band's point of view, but the truth is: you'd NEVER put this stuff out... SS took back all Bolle's tapes a couple of years back for assessment - and bear in mind: this was all stuff we'd sell our granny to get hold of - but SS subsequently deemed it "not worthy" of further consideration for possible future release!! What a ridiculous outcome!! Why weren't the fans consulted about this? We're in a social media/crowd funding digital age now, and it's now a relatively simple thing to canvas opinion to evaluate potential interest - eg - "Hey, we've got an early 1979 tape from Alexanders NY which features the band trying out XYZ songs for the first time - eg Allen singing "Lonely Teardrops"... if we put this put, who'd be interested in buying a copy?"... but are we given the option..? Are we buggery... In the end, Paul agreed with me...

Anyone know why anyone thinks Paul King was in Blue Oyster Cult? Especially the media? Who is Paul King? It's just an unfathomably surreal pronouncement of unknown origin... there is a well-known Paul King - check out "Love and Pride" on youtube, but his BOC links have been obscured by the passage of time... and reality...
