I just watched the documentary, I’ve had my fill of Zappa for a while.

I do love what he said a couple of times in the doc, about how he made albums that he wanted to listen to, and if someone else wanted to hear them too, he would sell it to them.

Saw Frank live 1981ish. Great show til he started spewing his political viewpoints which was somewhat expected and still disappointing.
His band was great...as was his playing.

He was underrated as a guitar player, like other artists who's other aspects overshadowed his guitar.

He was underrated as a guitar player, like other artists who's other aspects overshadowed his guitar. The thing that always grabbed me about his guitar solos was always how many of his set-piece solos seemed so deliberate and composed. He'd do a lot of repeated phrasings and then elaborate on the phrasing, changing it, playing with expectations. My favorite solo of his outside of Watermelon In Easter Hay is the second solo here, where he starts very light and sparse and over the course of four minutes or so gradually turns it into something blistering, kind of like what you'd do with your section on LDOM live.

Totally agree & love both of these solos. My other favourite Zappa guitar solos are Black Napkins & the solo from Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy from Bongo Fury; it may not be his most accomplished but I love the way it confounds your expectations before delivering it's punch.
