When you get a minute - well, OK, 5 minutes, can you check out the early version of Astronomy above from the New Years Eve show at the Academy of Music (Astronomy starts at 8.49 into the clip)... Treaties was still maybe 4 months away from release and it's clear Astronomy was still being hammered out and having its rough edges polished off - it's title was even announced as "Astronomy, a star"... anyway, for a while, there's been debate about just who exactly is singing the verses on this version... EB is clearly handling the chorus parts but the verses are deffo done by a Bouchard... on some sections, I think, "ah that's Albert" and on others I think "hmmm... that sounds like Joe"...
A while back, Joe seemed to settle things with this:
"Hey guys, I was listening to this version and I didn't remember playing it. Number one, that isn't Albert singing the verses. That's me. I wondered how he could be smashing the gong as he's singing. It didn't make sense. Here's what I think happened. We wanted to do the song but Eric didn't feel comfortable singing the verses. I said I'll sing that and you sing the end part. I must have been really nervous singing cause the intonation leaves a lot to be desired. Plus I had a really pretentious yucky tone to my voice. It's easy to see why Eric sang the final version on the record."
OK, everyone thought, fair enough, it was Joe after all, case closed... now Albert has just posted the following:
"Nope that's me. Joe sings more in tune. Originally I sang the whole song."
Yikes! Case back open!! Well, since the verse vocal attribution score is currently a draw - Albert - 1, Joe - 1 - I was wondering what your take/recall on this was...?
BTW: There's also some extra-curricular gong bashing going on during the track that I can only presume was done by Eric, unless Albert had somehow grown an extra arm...?
