This one gives a little additional information: www.billboard.com/music/music-news/mississippi-mudbug-festival-canceled-fatal-shooting-1235065336/Happened in the parking lot but some shots went into the midway of the festival. You're right, BOC was scheduled to play at 8:00 and the festival closed at 11:00, so they were the last act and possibly still in the area. Looks like the only fatality was one of the people involved someway in the shooting. I was wondering how they got a firearm in, but being in the parking lot explains that. Thank goodness law enforcement was present and able to keep this from getting worse.

Well, some good news. Yahoo News and radio station WDBO said the band IS SAFE. "A spokesman for the band said Sunday that everyone in the band was safe, and the band had no further comment."The whole news articles: news.yahoo.com/1-dead-several-injured-shooting-122426506.htmland: www.wdbo.com/entertainment/final-day/AG2453HXHMWDHBL2YFOBWX37NM/It's a real shame that things like this happen. My personal unconfirmed opinion is that this was not a mass shooting targeting the festival, but most likely a quarrel between some small number of people out in the parking lot that got out of hand. Sometimes we complain about security checks, pat downs, metal detectors, purse openings, etc. going into venues, but I think (hope) we all realize the necessity for that. Fifty years ago not so much, but today is a totally different story. Unfortunately.

Yeah, that fair was marred by gunplay. Too bad. The concert stage was away from the midway and most of the fair's rides and attractions. I guess we're lucky we aren't a contemporary act that would attract the trouble makers. Fair worker Sunday said the shooters were teenagers. I believe the shooting was in the fairgoers' parking lot.
Locals are trying to get downtown Jackson happening again, but they say it's pretty rough there. I have to think political rhetoric of disrespect for law and law enforcement has allowed miscreants a feeling of justification for their attitudes and behavior. But I have no idea what's happening on the ground in Jackson. I just wish everyone would appeal to our better nature, not stoke resentments and anger.
They cancelled the Sunday fair day. Too bad.

One article I read this morning said the kids involved were from 15 to 17 years old. Correct on the fairgoer's parking lot. One person interviewed implied that there was a problem with the youth in that area and that the parents need to help get a handle on it and know what their kids are up to. Agree on the increasing disrespect for law and law enforcement. When I was growing up a lot of the kids weren't really fond of the law guys, but there was still a mutual respect between the two in most cases. A lot of times the parents were just called in to deal with the kids. Not so much anymore except for maybe the really rural areas.

More details are emerging. A person of interest, Jesse Stotumill, reported that a couple of individuals ran up to him shouting, "THIS IS BOC COUNTRY," before pandemonium broke out.

Had my ticket for the show but the others that were going with me canceled so I opted out of going alone. Glad I did.
