www.loudersound.com/news/aerosmith-announce-farewell-peace-out-tourAerosmith says this will be their final tour. From Loudersound at the link above: "A press statement for the tour reads: 'After 50 years, 10 world tours, and playing for over 100 million fans… it’s time for one last go.'" Like all these "final tour" announcements, guess time will tell. Steven Tyler is 75.

Like all these "final tour" announcements, guess time will tell. Steven Tyler is 75. It depends on who you are. Neil Peart and John Deacon retired. BB King, Chuck Berry, Les Paul, and loads more rocked till the dropped. If I were blessed enough to have the career of a performer, I honestly can’t say which I would do when I got to retirement age. But whether it’s hanging up your guitar or goin’ down playing, as long as you do it on your own terms it’s a good decision. I feel bad for Leonard Cohen. Apparently he had wanted to retire but a manager scammed him out of his money so he had to keep performing. So I understand. If you’re there it should be because you want to not because you have to.

On your own terms can vary for different people with health being a big factor, in my opinion anyway. If performing is what REALLY makes you happy but your health makes it extremely difficult - and risky, especially the travel part, a person may have to hang it up way before he/she is ready to. Like getting fired from your band except getting fired by your own body. In some cases it is still up to the person - a risk vs reward decision.
But I see what you're getting at and agree.
There are just so many factors involved that the decision for a top performer to retire could really be a difficult one, especially if you're still drawing crowds of fans cheering you on and on.
I'm just not fortunate enough to be one that will have to make that tough decision. Darn..
I retired on the younger side from my job, but it was entirely my decision. A lot of things went into that decision, but the time was right for me and I have no regrets.

If BÖC try that crap I’m suing for breaching the “On tour forever “ social contract, but I’d settle out of court if I could attend one last show.

I could care less never had any desire to see them-they had a few good tunes back in the day.

Aerosmith did have some good tunes on the radio, however I was never interested in going to one of their shows either. Looks like Aerosmith and BÖC crossed paths at least a couple of times in 1974. Makes sense I guess.

Its great to see them go out on their own terms. They are one of my favorite bands. I've seen them at their absolute drug infested worst and later when they were sober and unbelievably good.

Never saw Aerosmith in concert...and certainly not jumping on the bandwagon to see them now...they're playing the Boston Garden on NYE. I did however see Joe Perry Project a few times during when he had left the band (early 80's), and the Whitford/ St. Hohmes opened for BOC in '81....that would be the extent of my Aerosmith experience.
