I remember after I met you and saw Blue Oyster Cult at the Arcada Theater in 2014, I decided to check out your website, and was shocked and amazed to find this old anime drawing of yourself. ^_^ www.buckdharma.com/Funhouse/Funhouse.shtml

That was done by Melne Murphy, who did BOC and my website. She's a graphics pro, and quite talented. Plays a mean guitar too.

Cool! Nice to know another person who's into graphic design AND anime. ^_^ On the guitar subject, I wonder if she has any audio or videos of her playing.

In case you hadn't seen it, this was the tour pass I made for the 1999 Japan tour (the same time which the other drawing was made) (sorry, bad resolution--the hi-res art is probably somewhere on an old CD, or in old-data heaven). The drawings were done in Adobe Illustrator. As for guitar stuff, the above video is several years old now, that band is defunct. It was really fun with a really talented women players, and it had the most success I ever achieved as a musician. Now I'm playing jazz, as well as playing in a funk/soul/R&B cover band called Afterglow, as well as an original post-punk/no wave band called Surplus 1980. There are some videos on those sites if you find yourself bored and/or interested. I have Buck to thank for the inspiration to pursue guitar playing. After I heard "On Your Feet or On Your Knees," I knew I wanted to play guitar. Since then, it's been a lifelong pursuit, lots of fun and lots of frustration. But worth it, I hope. :-o -melne

@twfmelne
Oh wow! Nice to meet you! ^_^
Really love the 1999 pass you made. That's some pretty stellar Illustrator work right there. I'm an Adobe user too, and while I have made many anime-styled artwork on Illustrator (primarily for school), Mine's, well, can't compete with your detail. XD (Personally, I'm more of a Photoshop illustrator/PaintTool SAI user.)
I'll definitely check out those videos too. ^_^

I was lucky enough to get one of two larger prints of the Japanese Tour. I had "The Great Frame Up" make it nice. Still need to frame up my Cult Classic Set. Have more nice BOC Wall Art than Wall Space. Even Thaddeus (Who was played at the Fan Show, is not up on the wall. And Great Frame Up did a masterful job on that. If I didn't give that to Lynn I would want to donate it to one my favorite causes CAMP HOPE (PTSDUSA, peer to peer counseling). The Lyrics to Veterans might be a little too close, though...

BTW, here is a link to Thaddeus on Dan Lawrence site. Quite the artist... Thaddeus

For those who dont know Melne...
As someone who goes way back to the AOL days (spectreri) I can tell you this...Melne rocks.
If it werent for Melne (and Bolle) my journey as a rabid fan of BOC would have been vastly different....and much much less fun and much less informed...thanks to that early BOC fan club stuff.
Huge Melne fan right here in Maine. An unsung BOC hero IMO.

Huge Melne fan right here in Maine. An unsung BOC hero IMO. I've got fond memories of those days (early '90s?) as well. Just knowing that there were other crazy Cultsters around the world was a real buzz. And this was in the snail mail days. I seem to remember doing some of the same "fan" things then that we do now, like voting on which song was the best opener (I think Stairway to the Stars took top spot.) Thank you Melne!

With the availability of information today via the net....it really isnt possible to understand how little info was out there on the band and then how cool it was to get the mail and see that Morning Final once in a while.
I couldnt wait to get from the mailbox into the house so I could sit down and read it immediately. Aside, The only way we knew if there was a show locally was reading the ads in the newspapers or an occasional show complete with radio ads. Pretty spoiled these days. ;-)
Thanks to the net now we get to haunt Buck directly ! Lucky him. LOL

I sent away off of an address on the album covers. I was excited to get that via snail mail. Maine is a great place man, I spent a month in Bar Harbor in 76 and a time so cool I'll never forget.

The lyrics were from Setauket. NY if I'm not mistaken...
I remembering being so desperate for BOC info at times I would actually CALL Bolle from time to time!
So, yeah...things have come quite a ways.,,

The lyrics were printed on a CBS Records dot-matrix printer. They were mailed from Setauket NY by Sandy Pearlman's girlfriend Joan Shapiro.
