Her dad was a famous drummer who played with big names like Chuck Barry and Blue Oyster Cult Over the years, I've been making a note of all the many phantom ex-members of BOC - and there have been a few - but when compiling that list, I've always checked the accompanying preposition - is it played with or played for...? For example, there have been gigs when 3 or 4 local support bands have hit the stage before BOC turns up at 11:30 p.m. to close the night out - that's 3 or 4 drummers right there who will, from that moment on, be telling anybody who will listen for the rest of their lives that they once played with BOC... it's the guys who tell people that they once drummed for BOC you gotta watch out for :-)

... oh, and I forgot to ask: who's "Chuck Barry"...?

I wonder how many people that write these articles and obits even think about which word they are using or what they really mean? For example take some local band performing in some club, hotel, or something. The BOC guys are there eating and maybe having a couple of beers after a show, so they sit there and listen to the local band for the heck of it. So the local band recognizes BOC out in the audience listening and tell friends and family "Hey, we played for BOC last night!". That was a nit-pick reverse-case example (I know....), but I agree with what you're saying. Things written after-the-fact from somebody's memory turn into fish stories. Now wait till we have AI obituaries. "In 2023 Duck Barman filled in as the on-stage drummer for Jim Morrison." Right.
