Buck - I've seen an interview from 2000 where you said this:
"I’ve got a lot of very early Blue Oyster Cult and Soft White Underbelly recordings. I don’t consider that I have the right to release those myself, but at some point in time we will get around to putting them out."
I know "at some point in time" is a flexible concept at best, but like my old gran used to say, "none of us are getting any younger" so I was wondering would you consider revisiting this idea again?
For example, I know Albert has the Conry live tapes but has said that he wouldn't feel
right about releasing them in any sort of official capacity without an OK from the rest of the band. Since you've expressed similar misgivings with your SWU tapes, I'm wondering how best we might get around this obstacle...?
On the practical side, early tapes would almost certainly need to be properly "baked" - and after that maybe put through that anti wow/flutter software process etc - but the fans would absolutely be on board to cover these incidental costs if it resulted in being able to get access to this early material...
You might think it's not really worth the effort - to which I can only plead the case that it absolutely
is - fans would
love to hear these early tracks... and you can even prove that by a pledging process such as Kickstarter - this lets you gauge the interest in advance...
With the first incarnation of SWU, you might think well, there's Les and Andy Winters to take into account - but I know for a fact that Les would be up for any SWU release... plus, I think if the approach was worded
correctly, Andy might not be
totally hostile to the idea...
So I was wondering what
your thoughts are on this...
