More AI crap? Or someone just wanting to publish something/anything?
Two interpretations from the SAME website:
"Yes, the band drew from their personal experiences during a road trip to Texas where they encountered a dangerous drug deal. This first-hand encounter with potential tragedy and loss deeply influenced the creation of “Last Days of May.”"
(At least this one has elements that come close even if a lot is boilerplate. But I didn't know the boys ran into Texas drug deals while touring....)
"The song tells the story of a tragic event that occurred on May 30, 1970, known as the Kent State shootings. This incident took place during a protest against the Vietnam War on the campus of Kent State University in Ohio. Four students were killed and nine others were injured when the Ohio National Guard opened fire on the crowd. The song reflects the emotions and aftermath of this tragic event."
(no way I can comment on this one without violating some forum foul language restriction policy)
The internet has always had inaccurate information, but way back it seems like it used to be minor details or honest mistakes.
Now if you search for a song meaning you can get who knows how many completely different interpretations. Not just the subjective opinion parts, but the main facts! I feel sorry for people today new to a bands music trying to figure out ANYTHING accurate about a song.
And now the government wants to start "regulating" AI. Begs for a new BÖC song opportunity titled "Bad2Worse"
Facts are circling the drain........

I happen to agree, Joe!
The story of a scary drug run is hilarious, if true, wouldn’t you love to know the details! 😂😂😂. If the Kent State version were true, I would love to know more. I have two Bachelor’s Degrees from KSU. I would love to know if BÖC is part of that story in any way.
It begs the question whether either of these have merit in any way whatsoever. To BÖC’s credit - they missed the social media frenzy that, in their day, would shine a spotlight on who knows what!
I absolutely believe that BÖC, and any other group, has the right to have their privacy. God knows that I wouldn’t want everything I’ve done posted, but I would love to have more information than we currently have. As band members pass on, we lose real history. We start getting second hand, or AI generated crap that does not benefit anyone.

Well, if you can be arsed wading through all the newspaper reports, here's the non-AI version of the events that inspired the creation of LDOM: www.hotrails.co.uk/bociaq/features/ldom.htmThe piece ends with a conclusion that reckons Buck was mistaken when he says he thought the Newsday article that inspired him was by Don Bolles - instead, it had been by another "Don" - Brian Donovan... Buck, of course, is free to chip in with his thoughts on this matter... :-)

Without a subscription you just get a low resolution image, but down below it they give you the OCR of the page.
I crawled part way down this rabbit hole early last year. I don't recall anything about this specific incident by Don Bolles.

Thanks for the insight duck and Joe! I shall dive down any and all rabbit holes that wiser ones have been down before me! 😂 Probably not too many rabbit holes that someone hasn't prowled around in already, but who knows. The actual events LDOM was based on received a lot of press, especially in Arizona. Hotrails has a good summary of most of it.
For whatever reason I started looking to see if there was anything new I could find. I was looking for enough pieces to put together an outline of the whole event in chronological order with new details. And press photographs. Yes, some do exist. Why? Just some tangent I caught up in for the sake of doing it. Must have wanted to take my mind off of something else.
The biggest problem I ran into was that most of what looked like "new" details was behind newspaper paywalls. The OCR text was usually available, but it was normally a frustrating mess to get all the pieces put together correctly. I put together a rough draft of the mess, but to do it "right" the source should be referenced and credited. By then I had NO idea where a lot of the stuff came from. Some fair amount I found by digging through my browser's cache, which can be tricky to navigate if you're not used to doing it. I found thumbnails of pics, articles, and text of stuff that I didn't remember seeing as I browsed the sites. A lot of the thumbnails were definitely related to the story, but the resolution was too low to see anything except some titles and fuzzy pics. Basically I gave up.
and here's just the thumbnail:
THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE. Good luck!

Awesome info Joe! I appreciate the information that you have provided. Looking forward to checking it all out!!! I love doing research, but I have not had adequate time for my hobbies lately. A 3-year old granddaughter along with 5 and 7 year old grandsons have my life in a current whirlwind!

LDOM will always be to me the perfect song. It paints a picture and offers so much mystery that you can almost picture yourself there.
On a humorous note...Ive always wondered just what kind of Ford 3 good buddies could fit in the back of. LTD?

Damn near everything from the 70's was a "land yacht" size wise compared to now so could have been several options!

It was a rented 1969 blue and white Ford coupe. Dunno what model. Don't know how I ended up with the somewhat clearer version.

Ok, rather than extract and post all of these things, just go to the "source" and read what you want yourself. Trying to find the rest of my "sources".
This one here is kind of grusom, but if you haven't seen it the article is pretty good:
I think that's it for me.
